About this place Metro Disco

Metro Disco opened in October 1990 at Sepúlveda 185, three blocks north of the Universitat metro station and at the western edge of what would become known as Gayxample. It is one of the longest-running gay dance clubs in Spain — 35 years continuous operation — and was central to Barcelona's emergence as a European gay-nightlife destination through the 1990s. The club runs two floors: a house-and-techno room, and a Latin/pop-dance room that runs Spanish and Latin American charts. The atmosphere is unpretentious, the drinks cheap, the crowd late (peak arrival is 02:00). Wednesday and Sunday nights carry the most-established loyal clientele; Fridays and Saturdays draw international travellers alongside the local crowd. Metro's durability is unusual for gay nightlife infrastructure. It has operated continuously for 35 years without a change of address or an extended break, and remains one of the two clubs (the other is Punto BCN) that anchored Gayxample when Barcelona had no other formal LGBTQ+ commercial infrastructure. Its fundraising for Barcelona AIDS organisations through the 1990s and 2000s is estimated in six figures cumulatively. Open Wednesday-Sunday, from midnight to 06:00. Entry €12-15 including one drink. ID required. Urgell metro is three minutes' walk. On a Barcelona nightlife walk this is the natural mid-night stop; combine with the neighbouring Punto BCN, Aire, and — earlier in the evening — a walk through Gayxample's bar circuit.
