Last verified: October 2026. Atlanta calls itself the gay capital of the South, but in late 2026 we could not find a single gay hotel, men-only guesthouse or clothing-optional resort operating inside the city. The scene is spread over bars, not beds. The main cluster is 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in Midtown. The Ansley Square strip is a 35-minute walk further up Piedmont, the old Cheshire Bridge Road bars are beyond that, and a younger queer strip runs along Edgewood Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward. Gay visitors sleep in mainstream Midtown hotels, at one long-running B&B that gay listings describe as mixed, or at the odd boutique on Ponce de Leon Avenue. The old Mandarin Oriental in Buckhead is now a Waldorf Astoria, and the Atlanta Eagle has left its Ponce building for Ansley Square. This guide covers which blocks let you walk to which bars, what tax and parking add to your bill, the Pride, Black Pride and bear weekends, and how to get home when the bars close.
Pick by trip style
| Stay style | Hotels | Walk to 10th St and Piedmont Ave | Walk to Ansley Square (Eagle, Oscar's, Felix's, Mixx) | Who it suits and the watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gay-run or men-only | None verified in the city in 2026. Stonehurst Place B&B (923 Piedmont Ave NE) is listed by gay guides as mixed gay/straight. | Stonehurst: a few minutes (same street, a couple of blocks south) | About 35–40 min | Couples who want a host and breakfast. It is not a gay guesthouse, and we could not confirm gay ownership. Ask before booking if that matters to you. |
| Closest to the Midtown bars | W Atlanta - Midtown | 13–15 min (9–10 min to X Midtown) | 22–25 min | Weekenders who want to walk to both Midtown and Ansley. Watch for lobby-bar noise and W prices on event weekends. |
| Historic, on Peachtree | Georgian Terrace Hotel | 11–13 min | 45–50 min, take a ride | First-timers using MARTA (North Avenue station is about 3–4 min away) and anyone heading to Flex (8–10 min). It is an older building, so ask for a renovated room. |
| Ponce de Leon boutique | Hotel Clermont | 30–35 min, take a ride at night | 45–50 min, take a ride | People who want a neighbourhood gay bar next door (Friends on Ponce, 1–2 min) and the Beltline by day. You will need a taxi for everything else. |
| Downtown, near Edgewood | The Ritz-Carlton | 36–40 min, ride | Ride only | Convention trips and the Edgewood Avenue queer bars (20–24 min on foot). Downtown is quiet and patchy after midnight. |
| Luxury in Buckhead | Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead, Grand Hyatt | Ride only (2 hours on foot) | Ride only | Business travellers and shoppers. Woofs is the nearest gay bar and still a 60–70 min walk. Every night out means an Uber both ways. |
| Event host hotel | The Starling Atlanta Midtown, Curio Collection by Hilton (Black Pride host in 2026) | Not measured; Midtown | Not measured | Labor Day weekend regulars who want to be inside the party. Expect it to be full and loud that weekend. |
Where to sleep, in real minutes
Atlanta is not a walking city, and the gay scene proves it. The one area where you can comfortably walk between bars is Midtown. It runs from Peachtree Street in the west to Piedmont Avenue and the edge of Piedmont Park in the east, and from 8th Street in the south to 14th Street in the north. The anchor is the corner of 10th and Piedmont. Blake's on the Park has been pouring there for more than 30 years. X Midtown runs the dance floor at 990 Piedmont on the old TEN site, and Boy Next Door sells the outfit you forgot.
Ansley Square is 2.2 km further north, about 35 minutes on foot along the park. This small plaza at 1492–1510 Piedmont Avenue holds the Atlanta Eagle, Oscar's, Felix's and Mixx. Cheshire Bridge Road (The Heretic, BJ Roosters) and Woofs on Plasters Avenue are another 30–35 minutes beyond Ansley, along roads built for cars. Edgewood Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward is a separate cluster, 45 minutes south-east of 10th Street.
The honest rule is to sleep in Midtown between Peachtree and Piedmont, and budget for rides to everything north of the park and to Edgewood.

Midtown: 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue
This is where to be. Hotels between 10th and 14th Streets put you 10–15 minutes from Blake's and X Midtown. Ansley Square is walkable too if the weather is kind.
W Atlanta - Midtown on 14th Street is the closest hotel in our listings. It is 13–15 minutes to Blake's, 9–10 minutes to X Midtown and 22–25 minutes to the Ansley Square bars. That makes it the only hotel in our listings where both clusters are a reasonable walk. Arts Center MARTA station is nearby for the airport.
Other big Midtown hotels (Loews on Peachtree, Hyatt Centric, Moxy Midtown) are in the same area and turn up in gay travel lists. They are not in our listings and we have not measured them, so check the map against 10th and Piedmont before you book.
At 3 am, Peachtree, 10th and Piedmont are lit and have people on them at weekends. Do not cut through Piedmont Park after dark; walk round it on Piedmont Avenue. Car break-ins are the common Midtown crime, so leave nothing visible if you drive.
Peachtree Street at the Fox Theatre
The Georgian Terrace Hotel at 659 Peachtree is a 1911 building across from the Fox, on the southern edge of the walkable zone. Blake's is 11–13 minutes away, up Peachtree and across on 10th. Flex Spas, the 24-hour men's bathhouse on 4th Street NW, is 8–10 minutes the other way, across the Downtown Connector. North Avenue MARTA station is 3–4 minutes away.
Bulldogs at 893 Peachtree has been a key bar for Black gay men for decades and is 11–12 minutes up the street. Listings disagree on whether it is still open, so check its current hours before you walk. Fox Theatre show nights fill the pavement until about 11 pm. After that Peachtree is quiet but not deserted.

Ponce de Leon Avenue and Poncey-Highland
Hotel Clermont at 789 Ponce reopened in 2018 in a 1924 building, with 94 rooms, the Tiny Lou's restaurant and a rooftop bar. Friends on Ponce is 1–2 minutes away across the road. Everything else is a ride. On foot, Blake's is 30–35 minutes, Edgewood Avenue about the same and Ansley 45–50.
By day, Ponce City Market and the Beltline Eastside Trail are close and pleasant. Ponce itself is a busy six-lane road with stretches of panhandling at night, so book a car for a 2 am return from Midtown. The Clermont Lounge strip club in the basement is a separate business with its own door and its own crowd.
Old Fourth Ward and Edgewood Avenue
The queer bars here are newer and the crowds are mixed. Lore, Sister Louisa's Church, Pisces and Joystick Gamebar are all within a block of each other on Edgewood. Our listings have no hotel on Edgewood itself.
The nearest is downtown's Ritz-Carlton at 181 Peachtree. It is 20–24 minutes from Joystick on foot via Auburn or Edgewood, and 36–40 minutes from Blake's. Edgewood is loud and crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but the 1.5 km back to Peachtree is dead. Take a car at closing time.

Ansley Square and Cheshire Bridge
No hotel in our listings is within walking distance of Ansley Square or Cheshire Bridge. The Eagle backs onto the Beltline's Northeast Trail, which is fine in daylight but not a 3 am route. The Cheshire Bridge bars are on a fast road with patchy pavements, so arrive and leave by car.
Buckhead
The Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead (the Mandarin Oriental until 2022) and the Grand Hyatt on Peachtree Road are good hotels in the wrong place for a gay weekend. Woofs, the nearest gay bar, is 60–70 minutes on foot, and Blake's is about 2 hours. Buckhead MARTA station is close to the Grand Hyatt, but trains do not run all night. Book here for a business trip or a quiet room, not for Pride.

Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional
We found no gay hotel, men-only guesthouse or clothing-optional property operating inside Atlanta in 2026. The hotels now marketed to gay visitors are mainstream properties with Pride packages or event partnerships.
- Stonehurst Place B&B, 923 Piedmont Ave NE, Midtown. A 19th-century house with a garden, still taking guests and getting reviews in October 2026. Gay listings classify it as mixed gay/straight. It is not men-only and we could not confirm gay ownership. Treat it as a welcoming small inn a couple of blocks from 10th Street. It is not in our listings, so confirm rates and policies directly.
- In The Woods Campground, Canon, north-east Georgia. Gay listings describe it as gay, clothing-optional and LGBTQ+ owned, with a pool and themed activities. It is a rural campground well outside the metro area, not an Atlanta base. Confirm the season and current policies before driving out.
- Mountain Laurel Creek Inn & Spa, Dahlonega, in the north Georgia mountains, is listed as a gay-owned B&B. Its 2026 status is unverified. It works as a weekend side trip, not a city stay.
- Tax. The City of Atlanta charges an 8% hotel-motel tax. On top come Georgia's flat US$5 per room per night state fee and sales tax (about 8.9% in the city; check your bill). Budget for roughly 17% plus US$5 a night on top of the room rate. A hotel just outside city limits may have a different county rate.
- Visitors. US hotels do not charge joiner fees, and nobody will ask a same-sex couple to justify sharing a bed. The front desk will check the ID of the person checking in, who needs a credit card. Some properties ask overnight visitors to register. The simple fix is to book the room for 2 guests from the start and ask for 2 keys.
- Deposits. Expect a per-night hold for incidentals on top of the room charge. On a debit card, that hold takes real money out of your account for several days after checkout.
- Fees. Some Midtown and downtown hotels add a daily destination or amenity fee that appears only at the final booking step. Hotel parking in Midtown and Buckhead is valet or garage and expensive, so if you are not driving, do not rent a car.
- Event weekends. On Pride, Black Pride and big stadium or convention weekends, many Midtown hotels set 2-night minimum stays and sell only non-refundable rates. Labor Day is a double squeeze because Black Pride in Midtown and Dragon Con downtown fall on the same weekend.
- Smoking. The city's big hotels have essentially no smoking rooms left, and a cleaning fee of a few hundred dollars for smoking or vaping is standard. Read the policy.
- Value: Georgian Terrace Hotel. Rooms are bigger than in the new towers, and North Avenue MARTA is 3–4 minutes away for a US$2.50 airport run. Blake's is 11–13 minutes and Flex 8–10. Outside event weekends it is usually cheaper than the newer Midtown hotels, but confirm current rates.
- Mid-range with character: Hotel Clermont. It has a rooftop looking over the Midtown skyline, a gay bar 1–2 minutes away, and the Beltline for a Sunday walk. The trade-off is a ride to every other bar.
- Splurge: W Atlanta - Midtown. It is the only hotel in our listings within walking distance of X Midtown, Blake's and Piedmont Park on Pride weekend, and the Eagle at a push. For true five-star service the Waldorf Astoria in Buckhead is better, but you will spend the difference on Ubers.
Who left: the Mandarin Oriental brand pulled out of its Buckhead tower in 2022, and the building now operates as the Waldorf Astoria. The Atlanta Eagle closed at its historic Ponce de Leon building and reopened at Ansley Square around 2022–2023. The old building was badly damaged by fire in 2024. None of the hotels in our listings is gay-owned or men-only. All are mainstream and gay-friendly.
Booking rules that bite

The gay calendar and where to book for it
Atlanta Bear Pride
The 2026 edition ran 24–26 April. The 2027 weekend is pencilled in for 23–25 April, but the organisers had not confirmed it as of October 2026, so treat it as TBA. It is a bar weekend, not a march, and it centres on Cheshire Bridge. The Heretic hosts most of the big nights, and Woofs does the kickoff and Sunday Funday.
No hotel is within walking distance of those bars. You can stay in Midtown (W, Georgian Terrace) and ride 10–15 minutes each way, or pick a Buckhead or Lindbergh-area chain closer to Woofs. Rooms are not as tight as at Pride; book 6–8 weeks out.

Southern Fried Queer Pride
A week-long queer festival run by artists in late June. The 2026 edition ran 22–28 June, and the June 2027 dates are TBA. It does not fill hotels the way October does. Stay near that year's events, which are often in east-side neighbourhoods. Hotel Clermont is the most useful base in our listings.
Black Gay Pride Atlanta
Black Gay Pride takes place over Labor Day weekend. The 2026 programme ran 2–7 September, with The Starling Atlanta Midtown (Curio Collection by Hilton) as host hotel. The 2027 dates are TBA. Labor Day itself falls on Monday 6 September 2027, so plan around Thursday 2 to Monday 6 September.
The host hotel sells out first, and Dragon Con fills downtown on the same weekend. Book Midtown in spring. If the host hotel's block is gone, take any hotel near the Midtown or Arts Center MARTA stations.
Atlanta Pride
The 2026 festival took place on 10–11 October in Piedmont Park, with the parade on Sunday. Atlanta Pride bills it as the largest free Pride festival in the US, with around 350,000 people across the weekend.
The 2027 dates had not been announced as of October 2026. The organiser says the festival runs on the second full weekend of October, around National Coming Out Day. That would mean 9–10 October 2027, but do not book anything non-refundable until it is confirmed. Parade applications reopen in early March.
This is the weekend to sleep inside Midtown. The W is 9–10 minutes from the 10th Street side of the park, and the Georgian Terrace is 11–13 minutes from Blake's. Midtown fills months ahead, and downtown on MARTA is the fallback.
Getting back at 3 am
From the airport. MARTA's Red and Gold lines run from the station inside the domestic terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson straight to Midtown's North Avenue, Midtown and Arts Center stations. The flat fare is US$2.50 and the ride takes roughly 25–30 minutes. If you arrive on an international flight, take the free Plane Train to the domestic side first. Trains stop overnight, roughly from 1 am to 5 am, so check MARTA's timetable for your arrival day. Uber and Lyft pick up from the airport rideshare zones; budget about US$35–55 to Midtown, more with surge pricing.
From the bars. Atlanta bars generally stop serving around 2:30 am and are empty by 3 am, after the last train. Uber and Lyft are the night transport, as there is no useful night bus for visitors. Good pick-up points are 10th Street at Piedmont outside Blake's and the Ansley Square car park. On Edgewood, use a side street rather than Edgewood itself, which jams at closing.
Walking. Inside Midtown between Peachtree and Piedmont, walking at 3 am is reasonable on the main lit streets. Do not walk Ponce de Leon between Midtown and Poncey-Highland late, and do not walk Cheshire Bridge at all. Do not use the Beltline or Piedmont Park as a shortcut after dark. Downtown streets around Five Points and Peachtree Center empty out at night.
Health, safety and the law
Clinics. AID Atlanta, 1605 Peachtree St NE in Midtown, is the Southeast's oldest HIV service organisation and an AIDS Healthcare Foundation affiliate. It offers testing and can point you to PrEP. PEP has to start within 72 hours of the risk, so go to an urgent-care clinic or the emergency department at Emory University Hospital Midtown on Peachtree Street. US emergency care is expensive without insurance, so check your travel cover before you fly.
App dates. Atlanta has a recent pattern of robberies set up through dating apps. On 1 October 2026, police appealed for a suspect after a man was assaulted and robbed at his home on Dupree Avenue NW by someone he met on an app. In November 2025, national coverage reported armed robberies in Atlanta and Brooklyn tied to dating apps and targeting gay men. Meet first in a bar, and send a friend the profile and the address. At a hotel, meet your date at the front desk and walk up together rather than giving out your room number.
Drugs and chemsex. Possession of meth, GHB or MDMA is a felony in Georgia, and hotels call the police over visible drug use or chemsex mess. Cannabis is still illegal under state law. A 2017 Atlanta ordinance made possession of up to an ounce a fine-only offence (up to US$75), but other police forces still enforce state law. Hotels will fine you for smoking anything in a room.
Smoking. Atlanta has banned smoking and vaping indoors in bars and restaurants since January 2020. Bars with patios are where smokers end up.
Other incidents. In 2024, police investigated vandalism of Global Black Pride vendors' stalls at an Atlanta hotel during Labor Day weekend. Nothing from 2025–2026 suggests day-to-day safety for gay visitors in Midtown has changed, and it remains as relaxed as any big US gay district. Georgia's state politics are more conservative than Atlanta's. Same-sex marriage and federal protections are secure, but trans-related laws differ from those in more liberal states.

Frequently asked
Is there a gay hotel or men-only guesthouse in Atlanta?
Not that we could verify in 2026. Gay visitors stay in mainstream Midtown hotels. Stonehurst Place B&B on Piedmont Avenue is listed as mixed gay/straight, and the nearest gay clothing-optional property is In The Woods Campground, far out in north-east Georgia.
Which hotel is closest to the gay bars on 10th Street?
In our listings, it is W Atlanta - Midtown, at 13–15 minutes to Blake's and 9–10 minutes to X Midtown. The Georgian Terrace is 11–13 minutes to Blake's, coming from the south.
Is Hotel Clermont a gay hotel?
No. It is a mainstream, gay-friendly boutique hotel. Its gay appeal is the location, with Friends on Ponce across the road. The strip club in the basement is a separate business.
Is the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta still open?
The brand left in 2022. The same Buckhead tower at 3376 Peachtree Road is now the Waldorf Astoria Atlanta Buckhead, a long ride from the gay bars.
What is the hotel tax in Atlanta?
There is an 8% city hotel-motel tax, sales tax of about 8.9% and a flat state fee of US$5 per room per night. Expect roughly 17% plus US$5 a night.
Can I bring a guest back to my hotel?
Yes. US hotels do not charge joiner fees. Book the room for 2 guests so a regular partner is on the reservation; some hotels ask overnight visitors to register at the desk.
When is Atlanta Pride 2027?
Not announced as of October 2026. The organiser holds it in Piedmont Park on the second full weekend of October, which points to 9–10 October 2027. Wait for confirmation before paying for non-refundable rooms.
