Calgary Pride
About This Event
Calgary Pride holds Alberta's largest Pride over the Labour Day long weekend, ending with a Sunday parade through downtown. Calgary's first Pride parade was on 16 June 1991, when about 400 people marched to City Hall; the city's mayor proclaimed a Gay Rights Week that year and then withdrew it after a backlash. The parade moved to the September long weekend in 2009, when Calgary Pride became an incorporated non-profit.
The parade is free. It runs along 9th Avenue SW from 5th Street SW to 4th Street SE in East Village, and the organizers post the start time on social media close to the day. For 2026 Calgary Pride dropped the single festival site on Prince's Island Park in favour of events spread across the city, mostly downtown, so older guides describing a park festival are out of date.
Tourism Calgary estimated about 60,000 spectators and nearly 150 entries for the 2026 parade; Calgary Pride has not published a count. Pride Week 2026 ran 31 August to 6 September, with the parade on Sunday 6 September. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked, though the Labour Day weekend pattern is well established.

Practical Tips
Email accessibility@calgarypride.ca ahead of the weekend if you need a wheelchair viewing spot — they hold designated zones along the route.
Ride the C-Train to Victoria Park/Stampede rather than driving; downtown streets close for the parade and parking evaporates.
