What reviewers say

Visitors frequently praise the friendly and helpful valet staff, particularly Tyler and Loni, and describe the rooms as spacious and well-remodeled with comfortable beds. However, a common complaint centers on issues with the aging HVAC systems, which are often described as loud and ineffective, and some guests have experienced problems with valet parking charges and room availability for connecting rooms.

Hotel Metro is one of those hotels that absolutely understands aesthetics. The black and gold Art Deco vibe is gorgeous. Feels like Gotham City hired the interior designer. The building itself dates back to 1937 when it was originally the John W. Mariner Building, which at the time was considered wildly modern, reportedly Milwaukee’s first fully air conditioned office building. The more you know. But then reality checks into the hotel too. Let me start by saying that when you’re a business traveler, and you have tons of meetings going on across the country, status matters. I stay at places where I have status because perks are supposed to be honored. I messaged Hotel Metro two days ahead about early check in and late checkout. I am lifetime Titanium Elite, Marriott’s highest lifetime status that is no longer even attainable. The response energy was basically “that’s adorable.” This place does not care about status. AT ALL. Marriott Bonvoy status here feels like showing up with a VIP wristband at a farmer’s market. Cute concept, wrong venue. I have a dinner tonight that I am now going to be late for because they wouldn’t let me check in any earlier. Is checkout supposed to be at 4 PM? Yes. Do they sell you on all of these perks? Very much so. Did I try to avoid this and could they have just been honest with me that it wouldn’t be available? Also yes. Thank goodness I have choices. This spot will not be a choice ever again. And then there was breakfast. I took the breakfast vouchers instead of the points, only to find out the restaurant was closed due to an emergency. Which, to be fair, emergencies happen. But at that point it starts to feel like every “perk” here exists more as a theoretical concept than an actual operational reality. The service isn’t rude so much as deeply uninterested in urgency and aloof to service. Front desk has the pace of a European train station cafe at 2 PM on a Tuesday. You get the feeling there’s one person cleaning all 63 rooms while simultaneously managing morale. The hotel itself is beautiful, spacious, and genuinely cool, but the operational side feels disconnected from the standards Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt business travelers expect. Honestly, Marriott keeping this in the Autograph Collection feels optimistic. My recommendation to Marriott would be to dump this spot.

We love staying at this hotel when we come to Milwaukee. They have the best cocktail bar with a rooftop. The rooms are always nice and welcoming, love the fireplace in the rooms.
