Last verified: October 2026. Dallas has no men-only hotel, no clothing-optional resort and, in our listings, no gay-run hotel. What it does have is one of the most concentrated gay strips in the American South. That is Cedar Springs Road in Oak Lawn, with J.R.'s, S4, the Round-Up and about a dozen more bars within a few blocks, plus one small gay-owned inn two minutes' walk from them. Every other hotel is mainstream, and Dallas is built for cars. So the useful question is not "which hotel is gay" but "which hotel lets me walk home from Throckmorton Street at 2 am". The honest answer is very few. This guide covers those few. It also covers the downtown and Deep Ellum hotels that work for June Pride, the bathhouse and the bear weekend, the 15% hotel tax, the two Prides (yes, two), Purple Party and TBRU dates, and getting back safely.

Where to sleep, in real minutes

The gay zone you can walk around in Dallas is small. It is Cedar Springs Road from Oak Lawn Avenue north-west to Douglas Avenue, crossed by Throckmorton, Reagan and Knight Streets. J.R.'s Bar & Grill and S4 share 3911 Cedar Springs at Throckmorton, and the Round-Up Saloon is opposite at 3912. Woody's, Havana, Alexandre's and The Mining Company are all within a block either side. Sue Ellen's, one of the last lesbian bars in the country, is just round the corner on Throckmorton. One block south-west, Maple Avenue has Marty's Live and Kaliente, 12–17 min on foot from the Strip.

Further out, the bars are ones you will drive to:

    • Liquid Zoo on Knight Street
    • The Tin Room on Hudnall Street (about 25–30 min on foot, and not a walk I would do at 2 am)
    • Hidden Door on Bowser Avenue
    • The Dallas Eagle at 5740 Maple Avenue (45 min on foot, so rideshare)

Club Dallas, the bathhouse, is on the other side of downtown in East Dallas. Anywhere outside the Strip, Dallas is a rideshare city. The walking times below are measured in our listings and converted from distance to real street minutes.

    Oak Lawn and the Strip

Only two places to sleep let you walk to the bars. The first is the Daisy Polk Inn at 2917 Reagan Street. It is a restored Arts and Crafts house built in 1909–1910, with three guest rooms and the separate Dickason Cottage, about 100 m from J.R.'s. Its own website, updated in 2026, places it in the Oak Lawn gayborhood, and it has been listed as LGBTQ-owned for years. It is not in our listings, so book direct.

The second is the big-hotel option, Warwick Melrose - Dallas, at 3015 Oak Lawn Avenue where it meets Cedar Springs. It is 3–5 min to the nearest gay bar and 8–10 min to the middle of the Strip. You pass Pekers, on Oak Lawn Avenue, on the way. The walk is along lit, busy roads, and on a Saturday you will have company most of the way. The hotel is mainstream (Warwick Hotels runs it) and has a pool, bar and restaurant. 2026 reviews are still warm about the staff. Ask for a room away from the Oak Lawn Avenue side if traffic noise bothers you.

At 3 am the Strip itself is the safest place to be. Texas law makes bars stop serving at 2 am, so the pavements are full until about 2:30 and then empty fast. The residential side streets off Reagan and Throckmorton are dark. Reverchon Park and the Katy Trail are 15–18 min from the Strip and are not a shortcut home after dark. The everyday crime in Oak Lawn is car break-ins, so leave nothing visible in a hire car.

    Uptown and Victory Park

On a map, Uptown looks close to Oak Lawn, and the two neighbourhoods do touch. But the hotels are at the far end. W Dallas - Victory, next to the American Airlines Center, is 33–37 min on foot from the Strip, across big roads and empty stretches. Treat it as a short rideshare. It suits a group that wants a rooftop bar and a scene before heading to S4. Hotel ZaZa on Leonard Street is about 30–34 min on foot (not in our listings; its restaurant, Dragonfly, does a busy brunch). The Uptown splurges are the Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and Hotel Crescent Court. None of them is in our listings, none is gay-run, and none is a comfortable walk from Cedar Springs at closing time.

    Downtown and the Arts District

Downtown is where the convention and arts hotels are, and since 2026 the June Pride festival has been here too.

    • Hotel Indigo Dallas Downtown at 1933 Main Street is right by Main Street Garden Park, one of the June Pride sites. Rooms in the 1925 building are small.
    • Magnolia Dallas Downtown is at 1401 Commerce, under the red Pegasus sign and beside Pegasus Plaza, another Pride site.
    • Mint House Dallas Downtown by Kasa on Elm Street has kitchens and digital check-in. That suits longer stays and makes bringing a guest back simpler.
    • Fairmont Dallas on North Akard, at the edge of the Arts District, is the downtown hotel closest to the Strip, and it is still 42–46 min on foot.

The other downtown hotels are 50–58 min from the Strip on foot. Downtown's office blocks are quiet after 9 pm, so at 3 am take a rideshare to the door rather than walking from a DART station.

    Deep Ellum and East Dallas

Deep Ellum is the live-music district east of downtown. It is also the part of town nearest Club Dallas at 2616 Swiss Avenue. Kimpton Pittman Hotel Dallas is in the restored 1916 Knights of Pythias Temple on Elm Street. It is 12–15 min from the bathhouse and about an hour from the Strip, and Kimpton has a long record on LGBTQ equality. SOVA Micro-Room & Social Hotel on Commerce Street is the cheaper option, with tiny rooms, 21–24 min from Club Dallas. Expect bar noise on Elm Street at weekends. Late at night, stay on the busy blocks between the hotels and the music venues.

    The Cedars and Reunion

Hyatt Regency Dallas, by Reunion Tower, is 55–60 min from the Strip. It matters for one weekend a year: TBRU. South of downtown, Lorenzo Hotel Dallas and CANVAS Hotel are convention-centre hotels, 67–79 min from the Strip on foot. Fine if your conference is paying, but not a base for a gay weekend.

    Oak Cliff and Bishop Arts

The Bishop Arts Hotel by Q resorts is among the restaurants and coffee shops of the Bishop Arts District. It is 21–24 min on foot from Barbara's Pavillion, Oak Cliff's long-running neighbourhood gay bar. Cedar Springs is at least a 15-minute drive. Oak Cliff has a sizeable gay population of its own, which makes it a good choice for a second visit.

    Where I would not book

The budget motels on our list are far from everything gay and have poor reviews:

Drey Hotel is well reviewed (4.7) and handy for Lower Greenville, but it is about two hours on foot from Cedar Springs.

    Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional

Gay-owned: the Daisy Polk Inn and Dickason Cottage on Reagan Street are the only place I can point to. Its website was active in autumn 2026 and calls Oak Lawn the gayborhood, and guides have listed it as LGBTQ-owned for years. I could not confirm that the same owners still run it in 2026, so ask when you book. With three rooms plus the cottage, expect it to book up early on Pride and Purple weekends.

Men-only and clothing-optional: there are none in Dallas. No hotel, guesthouse or resort in the city currently markets itself as men-only or clothing-optional. The nearest thing to a men-only space with beds is Club Dallas, a 24-hour bathhouse with private rooms. It is a venue, not somewhere to stay for the week.

Gay private rentals: gay rental platforms advertise private apartments and rooms in Oak Lawn, some right on the Strip. Dallas's 2023 short-term rental restrictions are frozen by a court order, so these rentals are still operating. The hosts are private individuals, so read the reviews and the cancellation terms.

Removed from our list: we removed two old entries after checking them. One was a Marriott Residence Inn in Washington DC that had been filed under Dallas by mistake. The other was the Red Door Motel on South Second Avenue, which had no gay connection. No gay hotel in Dallas closed in 2025 or 2026, because apart from the Daisy Polk there was none to close. The Warwick Melrose is gay-friendly in the plain sense and popular with gay visitors for its location, but it is not gay-run.

    Booking rules that bite

    • Hotel tax is 15%. That is the 6% Texas state hotel occupancy tax plus 9% for the City of Dallas. The city's share includes 2% that voters added in November 2022 to pay for the convention centre and Fair Park. Many larger hotels also add a separate tourism improvement charge, often around 2%. It is not a tax but it is on the bill, so check the final quote.
    • Visitors and ID. US hotels do not charge joiner fees, and the front desk does not register overnight visitors the way some countries do. The registered guest shows photo ID and a card. Many downtown towers set lifts and side doors to key-card only at night, so a visitor cannot go up alone. The usual fix works: book the room for two guests from the start, so you get two keys and nobody asks.
    • Card holds. Expect a daily hold for incidentals on top of the room rate. If you pay by debit card, the money can take days to come back. Confirm the amount before you arrive.
    • Extra fees. Some Uptown and downtown hotels add an amenity or "urban" fee. Valet parking is charged per night and is not cheap in Uptown or downtown. Ask about both before booking.
    • Smoking. Rooms are non-smoking, vapes included, and the cleaning charge runs to a few hundred dollars.
    • Age. Some properties require the person checking in to be 21. Check if anyone in your group is younger.
    • Event weekends. TBRU and Purple Party host hotels sell rooms through event blocks. These have their own deposit and cancellation rules, often stricter than the public rate, so read them before you pay.

The gay calendar and where to book for it

Texas Bear Round-Up 31: 25–28 March 2027

Texas Bear Round-Up is run by the Dallas Bears. It is the city's biggest gay hotel weekend, and all of it happens inside one building, the Hyatt Regency Dallas. The 2027 theme is "Bears of the Zodiac". Last year's edition, TBRU 30, ran 12–15 March 2026. If you are going, book the Hyatt as soon as the host-hotel block opens. If it is full, stay downtown (Magnolia or Indigo) and take a rideshare. Don't book Oak Lawn for TBRU unless the bars matter more to you than the event.

Purple Party Weekend: opens Thursday 29 April 2027

The Purple Foundation's circuit weekend has four main parties, pool parties and after-hours events. Tickets for 2027 are on sale, with the opening night on Thursday 29 April. When I checked, the organiser's ticketing page listed the venue as TBA and had not confirmed the closing date. In 2026 (30 April to 4 May) the base was the Dallas Marriott Suites Medical/Market Center on North Stemmons Freeway (not in our listings), with nights out on Cedar Springs. Wait for the 2027 host hotel announcement before booking a non-refundable rate. If you want to walk to the Strip between parties, the Warwick Melrose and the Daisy Polk go first.

Dallas Pride (June): 2027 date TBA

Dallas Pride and the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade moved from Fair Park to downtown in 2026. That year it was held on 6 June, across Main Street Garden Park, Pacific Plaza, Harwood Park and Pegasus Plaza. As of October 2026 the 2027 date has not been announced, though it is usually early June. Book downtown. Hotel Indigo and Magnolia are right by the festival sites, and SOVA is the budget option. It is a June weekend in a convention city, so book as soon as the date is out.

Pride in Dallas on Cedar Springs (September): 2027 date not announced

The other Pride is the original one. Pride in Dallas has brought the September parade back to Cedar Springs Road. The 2026 Michael Doughman Pride Parade set off from Douglas and Cedar Springs at 2 pm on Sunday 20 September, alongside the first Oak Lawn Live street festival. As of October 2026 the organiser had not published the 2027 date. This is the weekend when the Warwick Melrose and the Daisy Polk Inn matter most, so book them as soon as the date appears. Some older guides still online say the Alan Ross parade is in September. It is now in June.

Getting back at 3 am

From DFW Airport: DART's Orange Line runs from DFW Airport Station (Terminal A) through downtown, and a rideshare covers the last stretch to Oak Lawn. A rideshare all the way takes about 25–35 min without traffic. DART fares are a few dollars; buy tickets in the GoPass app. Check the last train time in the app for your date rather than assuming there is late service.

From Love Field: Southwest's Dallas airport is ideal for Oak Lawn stays, about 10–15 min away by car. To save money, take DART bus 524 from the terminal to Inwood/Love Field station.

From the bars: Uber and Lyft both work well, and almost everyone uses them to get home. Bars stop serving at 2 am, so demand and prices surge between 2:00 and 2:30. For an easier pick-up, walk a block off Cedar Springs onto Throckmorton or Reagan. Wait inside the bar until the car arrives, and check the number plate before you get in. There is no DART rail station on the Strip, and visitors should not rely on night buses.

Walking: Cedar Springs Road, and Oak Lawn Avenue down to the Melrose, are fine at closing time. Maple Avenue is quieter at night but manageable in a group for the 12–17 min to Marty's or Kaliente. Don't walk to Hudnall Street, the Eagle or downtown, and don't cut through Reverchon Park.

Health, safety and the law

Clinics: Resource Center is Dallas's main LGBTQ organisation and one of the largest HIV service providers in North Texas, with testing and referrals. It is at 5750 Cedar Springs Road, well north of the Strip towards Love Field, so drive. Prism Health North Texas also runs HIV and PrEP services; check its current clinic locations. PEP must be started within 72 hours. At the weekend, go to the emergency department at Parkland Memorial Hospital, 5200 Harry Hines Boulevard. It is the county hospital and the nearest major emergency department to Oak Lawn.

Apps: Dallas has a specific history here. Between 2017 and 2021, federal prosecutors convicted a group of Dallas men who used Grindr to lure gay men to an apartment complex and rob them at gunpoint. They were charged with hate crimes, and one was sentenced to 23 years. I found no similar Dallas case reported in 2025 or 2026, but the usual rules apply. Meet first in a bar on the Strip, share your location with a friend, and don't go to an address you haven't seen in daylight. Bringing someone back to your hotel is safer than going to theirs.

Drugs: GHB, crystal meth, cocaine and MDMA are in Texas's harshest drug penalty groups, and possessing even a trace amount is a felony. Hotels will throw you out and charge for damage. Chemsex in Dallas carries real legal risk for visitors.

Cannabis and hemp: marijuana is illegal in Texas. Hemp-derived delta-9 edibles and drinks (0.3% THC or less) are legal if you are 21 or over and show ID. Delta-8 has been a controlled substance since 31 July 2026, and shops cannot sell THC vapes. A stricter federal definition of hemp comes into force on 12 November 2026 and may remove more products from the shelves. Don't bring anything from a state where it is legal.

Smoking: Dallas bans smoking and vaping inside bars and restaurants, so people smoke on the patios.

Trans travellers: since December 2025, a Texas law has restricted restroom use in government buildings according to sex assigned at birth. It does not apply to hotels, bars or other private businesses.

Cruising: Reverchon Park and the Katy Trail have a long history as cruising spots. Texas public lewdness law applies, and Dallas police have run operations in parks before. A criminal record is a bad souvenir.

Three picks

Budget: SOVA Micro-Room & Social Hotel. Small rooms, rated 4.5 on Google from nearly 1,000 reviews. It is 21–24 min on foot to Club Dallas and close to Deep Ellum and the downtown June Pride sites. You will need rideshares to Cedar Springs, but what you save on the room covers them several times over.

Mid-range: Warwick Melrose - Dallas. The only full-service hotel where you can walk to J.R.'s in under 5 min and walk back at 2:30 am. Pool for the afternoon, the Strip for the night, and Love Field 10–15 min away.

Splurge: Daisy Polk Inn (not in our listings). It markets itself as a historic luxury inn, has long been listed as gay-owned, and is about 2 min from the Round-Up. Take the Dickason Cottage if you want privacy. Book direct, and confirm rates, minimum stays on event weekends and current ownership.
