Sydney Fair Day

Fair Day is the free daytime party that opens the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras season: one Sunday in Victoria Park, Camperdown, on the edge of Newtown, with more than 200 community stalls, food trucks, pop-up bars, a main stage and a lot of picnic rugs. It is the part of Mardi Gras locals actually go to with friends, dogs and kids, and it costs nothing.

The day runs roughly 10am to 9pm. The long-running dog pageant, now branded Doggywood, is the crowd favourite, and Victoria Park Pool next door has offered free entry early on Fair Day morning. Get there before noon if you want shade; the slope fills fast. Bring water and sunscreen, because February in Sydney is hot. The Mardi Gras Parade on Oxford Street is a separate night, usually about two weeks later.

The City of Sydney says past Fair Days have drawn 70,000+ people. The 2026 edition was on Sunday 15 February 2026, headlined by Janice Robinson of Livin' Joy with Courtney Act on the bill, ahead of the Parade on 28 February. Fair Day usually falls on a Sunday in mid to late February. Mardi Gras had not published its 2027 program when we checked, so treat any 2027 date you see online as a guess.
