Nagoya Rainbow Pride
About This Event
Nagoya Rainbow Pride is the city's annual pride day, held in the Sakae district each May. It launched in 2019 as the successor to the Nijiiro Domanaka Parade, a smaller event that ran from 2012 to 2017 and drew between a few hundred and about a thousand people. It has grown fast since: sponsor Panasonic put the 2025 crowd at about 50,000.
The day has two parts. The hub is Oasis 21, the plaza and bus terminal in Sakae, with stage shows, dance and booths from companies and local governments from 10:30am to 6pm, free to enter. The parade starts from the lawn plaza in Hisaya Odori Park and loops through central Sakae back to Oasis 21. In 2025 walkers registered in the morning, the first 1,600 got wristbands, and the parade left at 1pm with eight floats.
Parade rules are strict by Western standards: no alcohol, smoking, eating or parasols while marching, and no joining or leaving midway. Watching from the sidewalk along the route is the easy option if you didn't register.
The 2026 edition was on Saturday, May 16, under the theme 'Move Forward.' The organizers' site says it hopes to see everyone next year, but the 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked.
