Fleeing to Exist, Narratives of Queer Exile
About the event
Public listening and round table
LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking international protection face multiple discriminations, both in their country of origin and during their asylum application process. Giving a direct voice to those concerned by handing them the microphone to tell their own stories is essential: it helps to deconstruct stereotypes, restore their dignity, and place their experiences at the heart of debates.
Seven people have agreed to tell us their stories. Through their experiences, we explore various themes related to migratory journeys and the difficulties encountered in their countries of origin, ending with the reception they received in Belgium.
TW: physical and psychological violence, sexual violence, rape, conversion therapy, forced marriage, miscarriage. If you feel the need, you will be able to leave the room at any time.
This activity is organized with the support of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, as part of our continuing education and the Citizenship and Interculturality Promotion program.
