Film: Paris is Burning
About the event
Film Screening: Paris Is Burning (1990) Presented in collaboration with Michigan Humanities and hosted by Jey’nce. Join us for a screening of Paris Is Burning, Jennie Livingston’s landmark documentary on the drag ball culture of 1980s New York City. The film follows the Black and Latinx queer and trans communities who built the ballroom scene, with its houses, chosen families, voguing, and fierce categories of self-expression. More than thirty years later, its legacy lives on in queer art, language, and performance everywhere.
