Gay Sauna in Ahmedabad: The Honest 2026 Guide

In mid-October Ahmedabad doesn't sleep much. Navratri runs from 11 to 20 October 2026, and every night the drums start after dinner: thousands of dancers in mirror-work skirts and embroidered kediyu jackets turn in wide circles of garba at the GMDC Ground and in housing-society courtyards across the city, and the snack stalls outside fry fafda and pour sweet, cardamom-heavy chai until the small hours. The city's heat does the work of a steam room for much of the year. A gay bathhouse is another matter. Here is the honest summary: we found no gay sauna in Ahmedabad. The three "saunas" listed for the city are male massage businesses, and this guide explains what they are, the legal risks around them, and the safer ways to unwind and to find the city's queer community.

Legal in one line: India's Supreme Court decriminalised consensual same-sex relations in 2018, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the criminal code in force since July 2024, has no equivalent of the old Section 377; same-sex marriage and civil unions are not recognised. Sex for money is a separate matter: the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 punishes brothel-keeping, living on another person's earnings, procuring and soliciting, and Gujarat police regularly raid spas suspected of being fronts for it. Gujarat is also a dry state, where alcohol is legal only under permit.

Is there a gay sauna in Ahmedabad?

No, as far as we could find. None of the gay travel directories we checked lists a gay sauna or bathhouse in Ahmedabad or elsewhere in Gujarat, and GayOut's own guide text for the city says "there are no gay saunas in our Ahmedabad listings", even though three businesses appear on the same page. Searches in English, Hindi and Gujarati turned up spa news, but only about police raids, never about a men's steam room or bathhouse.

Gay saunas are rare in India as a whole. The nearest things to them are a handful of men's spas in Delhi; Travel Gay notes that most male massage spas in New Delhi have sauna facilities and also serve as cruising spots, and lists venues such as Phillips with Mykonos in Hauz Khas, with a steam room, dry sauna and jacuzzi. If a sauna night matters to you, plan it for a stop in Delhi, read recent reviews, and keep the legal notes below in mind there too.

About the listings on this page: GayOut currently files three Ahmedabad businesses as gay saunas. We could not verify any of them as a sauna, and we have left all three out of the table below.

• "men to men spa", Satellite (Iscon Emporio, Jodhpur Cross Road). The listing's address field begins with a sales line ("5+Year's Vast Professional experience in Men to men Body massage") rather than an address. GayOut tags it with 24-hour access; its own website blocks automated checks, and we found no independent description of its facilities.
• "Sunny Massage Centre | Male To Male Spa in Ahmedabad", an office-complex unit on Ashram Road, Navrangpura. GayOut tags it with a steam room and private cabins, but GayOut's own comparison table marks those facilities as unconfirmed, and no other source we found mentions a steam room.
• "The Lemmon Spa – Male to Male Body Massage Centre in Ahmedabad | Home Male Spa Service in Ahmedabad", third floor of a commercial complex off C.G. Road, Navrangpura. The name itself advertises home visits, and a review on the listing praises its "home and hotel massage service".

All three have near-perfect Google ratings (4.9 to 5.0 from roughly 150 to 210 reviews), mostly made of very short reviews, and names written for search engines rather than for customers. None of them appears in gay travel guides, sauna directories or the local press. They are massage businesses that sell massage by male staff in private rooms, not saunas where men meet each other, and we don't recommend them.

Massage, sex work and the law

India's rules on sex work are easy to misread. Private, voluntary sex work between adults is not itself named as a crime, and in May 2022 the Supreme Court told police not to arrest, penalise or harass adult, consenting sex workers. Almost everything around it is illegal, though, and the law is written about "persons", so it applies to men's spas as much as to anyone.

• Brothels: the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act defines a brothel as any house, room or place, or part of one, used for sexual exploitation or abuse for the gain of another person, or for the mutual gain of two or more sex workers. A massage business where staff sell sex for the owner's profit can fall under that definition. Keeping or managing one carries one to three years' rigorous imprisonment on a first conviction.
• Living on the earnings of someone else's sex work, and procuring, are offences.
• Customers can be prosecuted too: section 7 of the Act punishes both the person selling sex and "the person with whom such prostitution is carried on" in a notified area or within 200 metres of places such as places of worship, schools, hostels and hospitals, with up to three months in prison. In a dense city like Ahmedabad, that radius covers a lot of ground.
• Soliciting in public is an offence; for a man, the Act sets a minimum of seven days' imprisonment.
• Trafficking: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita punishes the exploitation of trafficked people, and courts have discussed section 144 in cases against customers, holding that it applies when the customer knows the person has been trafficked.

Gujarat raids spas, and often. In October 2023, on the instructions of the state's Minister of State for Home, Gujarat police carried out surprise raids on around 2,000 spas and hotels in three days, arresting 183 people and registering 204 FIRs, as part of a drive against "flesh trade being run at hotels and spas". In Ahmedabad alone about 350 spa and massage parlours were checked, and nine were booked for breaking a city police commissioner's notification that requires spas to record the names, photos and contact details of owners and staff. In September 2026, Odhav police in eastern Ahmedabad said they had busted a prostitution racket at a spa on SP Ring Road after sending in a dummy customer; three women from Tripura had allegedly been brought to the city and kept there. These cases did not involve gay venues, but the same laws apply to men's massage businesses.

• Don't pay for sex, at a spa or anywhere else. Apart from the legal risk, you can't know whether the person in front of you is working freely.
• Be very wary of "home" or "hotel" massage from unknown providers. Inviting a stranger to your room is the set-up extortion gangs rely on. In 2026, police in Surendranagar and Surat arrested gangs who used fake profiles on gay dating apps to lure men, then threatened to expose them, posed as police, took phones and cash and forced UPI transfers.
• If someone claims to be police and asks for money, stay calm, ask for identification, and call 112. Gujarat police have said the identities of victims who report these crimes are kept confidential.
• Keep your passport or a clear copy with you, and leave valuables in the hotel safe.
• Stay away from drugs: India's drug laws are very strict.

Where to steam and unwind instead

Hotel spas

If what you're after is heat, steam and a massage, Ahmedabad's large hotels are the place for it. ITC Narmada, a Luxury Collection hotel, is listed with a spa that has a sauna and a steam room, alongside an outdoor pool and a round-the-clock gym. Facilities like these are mainstream and mixed, used for wellness, not for meeting men, and access for non-residents varies, so ask at reception or book a treatment first. If you stay elsewhere, ask whether your hotel has a steam room or sauna before you book.

Massage at home, the mainstream way

India's big home-services apps sell massage like any other booking. Urban Company, for example, lists "massage for men" in Ahmedabad by male therapists, who arrive with a portable bed and disposable sheets; in 2026 it listed Swedish, deep-tissue and sports massages at roughly ₹900 to ₹2,000, depending on length. Bookings run through the app, with a named, rated professional, which is a world away from calling a number from a keyword-stuffed listing. If you're staying in a hotel, ask about its policy on visitors first.

Hammams and stepwells

We found no public hammam operating in Ahmedabad today. The city's great water architecture is its stepwells: the carved, fifteenth-century Adalaj stepwell, north of the city, was built to store water through the dry season, and stepping down its storeys into the shade on a hot afternoon is the closest Ahmedabad comes to a cooling-off ritual.

Where the queer community meets

Ahmedabad's queer life runs on groups and events rather than venues. Announcements go out on Instagram, so follow the organisers and message them if you're not sure how to join.

• QueerAbad (@queerabad), founded in 2016, runs talks, readings, film screenings and open discussions, and revived Ahmedabad Pride in 2018.
• The Gandhinagar Queer Pride Foundation organised Gandhinagar Pride and the 2024 Indian Pride Festival in Ahmedabad, whose programme included a Queer Garba Night. On 27 June 2026 its Satrangi Mehfil, an evening of queer painters, musicians and performers, was held at the Alliance Française de Ahmedabad. The foundation has been fundraising for an LGBTQIA+ community centre in the city.

Practical tips

• Getting around: Uber, Ola and auto-rickshaws cover the city, and the metro's east–west line links the old city with the western suburbs. At night, an app cab gives you a tracked trip.
• Meeting people from apps: meet first in a busy public place, such as a mall food court or a hotel lobby café, never in an empty building or a secluded spot, and tell a friend where you're going.
• Season: November to February is the comfortable time to visit. From April to June the city is fiercely hot.
• Navratri: in 2026 it runs from 11 to 20 October, with Gujarat Tourism's festival centred on the GMDC Ground. Mainstream garba is a family event; queer garba nights have been organised by community groups before, as in 2024, so check their pages.
• Discretion: Ahmedabad is conservative. Public affection between men draws attention, so keep it low-key outside queer spaces.

Pride and events

Ahmedabad's first Pride march, on 1 December 2013, walked to Gandhi Ashram. QueerAbad revived Pride with a walk on 24 February 2018, there was another on 24 February 2019, and a march was reported again in 2024; Gandhinagar, Surat and Vadodara hold their own. As of October 2026, no date for the next Ahmedabad Pride has been announced (GayOut's event listing says "TBA"), so follow QueerAbad and the Gandhinagar Queer Pride Foundation for news.
