The honest summary: Armação dos Búzios has no gay bar, no gay club and no gay sauna that we could confirm in any current source. What it does have is an annual Parada LGBT+, run by a local NGO and a carnival bloc. Come for the beaches and the food. For a gay night out, the place to go is Rio de Janeiro, about three hours away.

Where the scene is

There is no gay district. Búzios is a peninsula of about 40,000 residents (IBGE, 2022 census) that fills up in summer, and its social life runs along two connected stretches in the centre: Rua das Pedras, the bar and restaurant street, and Orla Bardot, the waterfront promenade named after Brigitte Bardot, whose two visits in 1964 put the fishing village on the tourist map. Any queer presence you see will be here, mixed in with everyone else. It is also the route the Parada took in 2026.

Bars and nightlife

We searched English and Portuguese guides and Google Maps for gay bars, clubs and drag nights and came up with nothing we can list. A misterb&b page says Búzios has no official gay bars, and the Diário do Rio's May 2026 piece on the town's LGBT+ tourism push names no venue either. The maps results for "bar gay Búzios" are ordinary bars on Rua das Pedras that match on the place name. We don't label them gay, because nothing shows they are. You will likely be fine at most of them. Parties happen now and then: a Sunset Pride event ran at Bamboo Búzios Hostel in October 2023, and a "Brighton Experience" weekend was held in November 2021. Neither appears to be a regular fixture.

Saunas, cruising and adult venues

We found no gay sauna or sex club in Búzios, and no documented cruising area. Searches in both languages return only Rio and São Paulo, and the Rio listings on Travel Gay and misterb&b are where to look if you want a sauna.

Beaches

No beach here is a gay beach in the way Rio's Farme de Amoedo is. Two have a thin paper trail. The Diário do Rio named the left-hand corner of Praia João Fernandes as an LGBT gathering point in 2021. Out Traveler described Olho de Boi as popular with gay men and straight couples, but that was in 2006, so treat it as history.

Olho de Boi is the small cove reached on foot by a steep trail from Praia Brava, and it is often listed among Brazil's eight official naturist beaches. Its legal status is less clear than those lists suggest: several accounts say the 1997 authorisation was revoked in 2016 when the area became a municipal nature monument, and we could not read the municipal text. Nudity continues there in practice. A fire in August 2026 reached part of the access trail. Sex on any beach, naturist or not, is an offence under article 233 of the Penal Code (obscene acts).

For swimming, Ferradura and João Fernandes are the calm bays and Geribá and Brava take the open swell.

Parada LGBT+ and events

The Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ de Búzios is organised by ONG Cores de Búzios. Its 11th edition was scheduled for 12 July 2026, on a new route along Orla Bardot and Rua das Pedras (Diário do Rio, May 2026). We did not find a report from the day itself. The date moves around: the 8th edition was on the weekend of 6 to 8 October 2023. The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing.

Carnival has its own queer bloc, Bloco Veadinhos de Búzios. Nearby Cabo Frio holds a separate Parada, whose 20th edition was on 4 October 2025 at Praia do Forte.

Community and health

Cores de Búzios is the only local LGBT+ organisation we found. It also trains hotel staff on LGBT+ tourism. We could not confirm a dedicated HIV testing centre (CTA) or PrEP service in the municipality. Rapid testing is part of the public SUS network, so ask at the municipal health department on Estrada da Usina Velha, or plan around services in Cabo Frio or Rio.

Where to stay

No hotel here is gay-owned or gay-run as far as we can establish, and "LGBT-friendly" tags on booking sites are automated. Location matters more. To walk to Rua das Pedras, look at Casas Brancas, Abracadabra or Búzios Centro, or Bamboo and Che Lagarto on a budget. Insólito at Ferradura and La Pedrera near João Fernandes are quieter and need taxis. The full list is on the hotels page.

Getting there

Búzios is about 170 to 175 km from Rio, roughly three hours by car. Auto Viação 1001 runs buses from Rodoviária Novo Rio, with trips from a little over two hours depending on the service. Rio's Galeão airport is about 200 km away. Cabo Frio airport (CFB), about 30 km away, has seasonal flights: LATAM announced Guarulhos service from December 2026, and Azul flies from Belo Horizonte between 12 December 2026 and 13 February 2027. Check that your flight is running before you plan around it.

Closed or changed: names you may still see

    • Satyricon and Banana Land: older guides, including an earlier version of this one, named them as gay gathering places. We found no link to the LGBT+ community for either. A 2017 review says the Búzios Satyricon had closed.
    • "Praia da Feradura" and "Praia da Ferrada": misspellings of Ferradura.
    • Praia Brava as a gay beach: an earlier version of this page said so. We found nothing to support it.

FAQ

Is there a gay bar in Búzios?

Not one we could confirm. Rua das Pedras has plenty of mixed bars, but none presents itself as gay.

Is Búzios safe for same-sex couples?

It is a tourist town and we found no recent reports specific to LGBT+ visitors, though we can't say there are none. Brazil's legal protections are strong and its rates of anti-LGBT violence are also high, so keep the usual awareness outside the busy centre at night.

When is Pride?

The date changes. It was scheduled for 12 July in 2026 and held in October in 2023. The 2027 date is not yet announced.

Is there a gay beach?

Not a recognised one. See the Beaches section for the limited evidence on João Fernandes and Olho de Boi.
