The honest version: Boston has no gay sauna or bathhouse. The last one, the Safari Club in the South End, was shut by city officials in 1999, and none has opened since. There's no sex club or darkroom bar in the city either.
The nearest gay bathhouses are in Providence, Rhode Island, about an hour away by car or commuter rail. In Boston itself, men meet on the apps and in the South End bars; our cruising guide covers the law and safety, and the bars page lists where to go.
The Russian-style banya and the contrast-therapy saunas that show up in a search for "sauna Boston" are ordinary wellness spas, not gay venues.
