Last verified: November 2026. New Hope has nowhere gay-run, men-only or clothing-optional to sleep this winter, and you should know that before you book. The Raven, the gay resort and bar at 385 West Bridge Street, was sold in June 2019. It closed for good that autumn and became valet parking for a riverfront hotel. The Cartwheel burned down in 2005. The Wishing Well Guest House on Old York Road, long listed as LGBTQ+ owned, is reported closed. The New Hope Lodge is the 1950s motel that houses The Cub Room. It changed hands in January 2026 and was not taking reservations as of August 2026. What's left is a good choice of mainstream B&Bs and historic inns on both banks of the Delaware, where two men sharing a four-poster hasn't raised an eyebrow in decades. This guide sorts them by the one thing that matters on a gay weekend here: how far you walk to The Cub Room on West Bridge Street and to Main Street. It also covers taxes, PrideFest booking and how you get home once the town goes dark.
Pick by trip style
| Stay style | Hotels | Walk to The Cub Room (West Bridge St) | Walk to Main St and Mechanic St | Who it suits and the watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gay-owned or men-only | None open. New Hope Lodge (not taking bookings while it's renovated); Wishing Well Guest House (reported closed) | On site / 3–5 min | About 25 min | Nobody, for now. Watch for the Lodge to announce a reopening date, then see whether the new owners keep its gay crowd. |
| West Bridge Street, nearest the gay bar | Fox and Hound B&B, 1870 Wedgwood Inn | 11–13 min (Fox and Hound), 17–19 min (Wedgwood) | 15–17 min, 7–9 min | Couples who want to walk to both The Cub Room and dinner in town. The western stretch of Bridge Street is a busy road, not a pleasant stroll. |
| On Main Street | Ghost Light Inn, Olivia's Bridge Street Inn, Logan Inn, The Mansion Inn (confirm rooms) | 22–28 min | 1–8 min | First-timers, PrideFest, Playhouse nights. Street noise until late at weekends, and the gay bar is a long walk or a short ride. |
| Quiet canal blocks | Porches on the Towpath, Aaron Burr House | 19–25 min | 5–8 min | Light sleepers and porch sitters. B&B house rules apply, so ask about visitors before you arrive. |
| Across the river in Lambertville, NJ | Lambertville House, Lambertville Station Inn | 31–38 min | 8–13 min over the bridge | Pride parade day (it starts on this side) and New Jersey cannabis. Room tax is higher than in Pennsylvania. |
| Budget motor inn | New Hope Inn & Suites | Car or taxi (about 20–25 min on foot along Route 202, not advised) | Car or taxi | Groups and late bookers. It's on Lower York Road, not in the centre, whatever some listings say. |
| River luxury and country inns | River House at Odette's, Inn at Bowman's Hill, Pineapple Hill Inn, Black Bass Hotel | 30–33 min (River House); the rest by car | 11–13 min (River House); the rest by car | Anniversaries and slow weekends. Except at River House, you need a car or a sober friend. |
Where to sleep, in real minutes
New Hope is a borough of about 2,500 people, and the walkable part is shaped like a T. The stem is Main Street. It runs along the Delaware from the Logan Inn at West Ferry Street, past the Bucks County Playhouse, down to Havana at 105 South Main. The crossbar is Bridge Street. East Bridge Street crosses the New Hope–Lambertville Bridge into New Jersey. West Bridge Street runs west out of town, past the row of B&Bs, to The Cub Room at number 400. West Mechanic Street is the short block off Main by the Playhouse. It has Nektar Wine Bar, Karla's and Zoubi, and in April 2026 the borough approved a Pride street mural there (we haven't confirmed it was finished).
The awkward fact is that the town's only dedicated LGBTQ+ bar is about 1.5 km from the restaurants. The walking times below are based on our listings' measured distances to The Cub Room and to the Mechanic Street corner. From Main Street to The Cub Room takes about 25 minutes on foot. Most visitors walk one way and get a ride the other.

West Bridge Street: closest to The Cub Room
The Fox and Hound B&B at 246 West Bridge Street is an 1840s stone house. Of the B&Bs still open, it's the best placed for gay visitors: 11–13 minutes to The Cub Room and 15–17 minutes down to Main Street. It's rated 4.8 from over 80 reviews. Further east, the 1870 Wedgwood Inn at 111 West Bridge Street is the other way round: 7–9 minutes to the Mechanic Street bars and restaurants and 17–19 minutes up to The Cub Room. It has more reviews than any other B&B in town, 4.8 from about 245.
At 3 am, West Bridge Street is quiet and residential near the centre. Heading west, it becomes a through road with traffic and fewer lights. Walk it once in daylight so you know where the pavement runs. Two men walking back from The Cub Room at midnight is ordinary here. The bigger risk is walking it alone after a lot of drinks with cars going past, not anyone you're likely to meet.
Main Street and Ferry Street: the centre
This is where you'll find the restaurants, the river terraces, the Playhouse and the Pride parade route. The Ghost Light Inn at 50 South Main Street is right beside the Bucks County Playhouse and 1–3 minutes from Nektar. It's the obvious place to stay for the spring drag pageant, which is held in that theatre. Olivia's Bridge Street Inn is at 28 West Bridge Street in an 1817 building. It's 4–6 minutes from Mechanic Street and has a roof deck and some rooms with balconies. The Logan Inn at 10 West Ferry Street is one of the oldest inns in the country. It's 6–8 minutes from Mechanic Street and has its own bar and restaurant, which matters when the town shuts early on a Sunday.
The Mansion Inn at 9 South Main is 3–5 minutes from everything. Its restaurants (Sangria Garden, then Anzu Social) are listed as closed. The operator says rooms are still available, but we couldn't confirm that it takes normal nightly bookings, so ring before you pay. All of these Main Street inns are 22–28 minutes from The Cub Room.
Noise: summer Saturdays and all of PrideFest weekend bring crowds to Main Street until the bars close, so ask for a room at the back or on an upper floor. Safety at 3 am is good. The centre is small, well lit and policed, and the main hazard is the river wall after a long evening.

The canal blocks: Fishers Alley and the towpath
Porches on the Towpath at 20 Fishers Alley is a Federal-style house with 12 rooms and a two-storey wraparound porch overlooking the Delaware Canal. It's 5–7 minutes to Mechanic Street and 22–25 minutes to The Cub Room, on an alley where the loudest thing at night is a duck. The Aaron Burr House at 80 West Bridge Street (4.9 from about 150 reviews) is 6–8 minutes to Mechanic Street and 19–21 minutes to The Cub Room. These two are the quietest places to sleep that are still an easy walk from dinner.
Lambertville, New Jersey
The bridge is short and easy to walk, and Lambertville is no backwater. It has its own restaurants and antiques shops, and the Pride parade starts there. Lambertville Station at 11 Bridge Street is a restored railroad station with an inn on the riverbank, 8–10 minutes from Mechanic Street. Lambertville House at 32 Bridge Street has been an inn since 1812 and is 11–13 minutes away. Both are 31–38 minutes from The Cub Room, so plan a ride for that leg. The bridge has a footway and is well used on weekend nights.

River Road south and the countryside
River House at Odette's at 274 River Road stands where Odette's used to be, the cabaret and piano bar that was part of New Hope's gay history for decades. It's 11–13 minutes along River Road to the south end of Main Street (9–11 minutes to Havana) and 30–33 minutes to The Cub Room. Its developer, Gateway to New Hope, is the same company that bought The Raven in 2019 and turned it into this hotel's valet parking. Some older regulars haven't forgotten.
Too far to walk: the Inn at Bowman's Hill on Lurgan Road (4.9 from about 350 reviews) and the nine-room Pineapple Hill Inn, about 4.5 miles down River Road, are couples' retreats. North up River Road, the Black Bass Hotel in Lumberville and the 1740 House are river inns for people who don't plan to be out late. Check that the 1740 House is taking bookings. The Golden Pheasant Inn is an 1857 inn upriver near Erwinna with only a few rooms. Confirm its exact location and whether it's currently selling rooms. To the west, the Golden Plough Inn at Peddler's Village and Ash Mill Farm in Holicong are a drive from town. Hotel Du Village on River Road is now mostly a wedding venue. It's useful if you're getting married, not for a weekend in the bars.
Route 202: New Hope Inn & Suites
New Hope Inn & Suites is the large motor inn at 6426 Lower York Road (Route 202), the address on its own website, about 2 miles from the centre. Some listings put it on South Main Street, but it isn't there. It has an outdoor pool and more rooms than anywhere else in the area. It's closer to The Cub Room than to Main Street, but the walk is along a highway, so drive or take a car both ways. Reviews average 3.7, so set your expectations accordingly.

Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional
As of November 2026, there are none. We don't know of any guesthouse, inn or motel in New Hope or Lambertville that is men-only, clothing-optional or currently marketed as gay. Every hotel recommended in this guide is a mainstream business that welcomes same-sex couples, which in this town is normal rather than a selling point.
What closed, and when:
- The Cartwheel (gay club on the Route 202 side of town, open from the late 1950s): burned down in 2005.
- The Raven, 385 West Bridge Street (gay bar, restaurant, pool and rooms): sold to Gateway to New Hope in June 2019, closed later that year and turned into parking. The new club promised for the site at the time never appeared.
- Wishing Well Guest House, 144 Old York Road (LGBTQ+ owned, mixed crowd, a short walk from The Cub Room): put up for sale in 2018 and now reported permanently closed. Don't book it from an old listing without phoning first.
- New Hope Lodge, 400 West Bridge Street (28 rooms in five cabin-style buildings on 4.2 acres, with an outdoor pool): bought in January 2026 for more than US$3.8 million by a partnership linked to Llenrock Realty Partners and Foyer Hospitality, the team behind Hotel Anna & Bel in Philadelphia's Fishtown. The rooms are being renovated. In August 2026 there was no way to book and no reopening date. Reviewers used to call it one of the last gay-friendly places left in town. Nobody knows yet whether the reopened Lodge will court that crowd.
The good news is The Cub Room itself. Its owner, Laura Sachs, signed a five-year lease with the new owners in May 2026, and the new owners have said the bar stays open during the renovation. It's New Hope's only dedicated LGBTQ+ venue: a fifties-style cocktail lounge with a piano, not a dance club. With The Raven gone there's no gay pool left in town, so day passes for non-guests aren't a question.
Booking rules that bite
Hotel tax. On the Pennsylvania side you pay the 6% state hotel occupancy tax plus Bucks County's 5% room rental tax, so 11% on top of the room rate. In Lambertville you pay New Jersey's 6.625% sales tax, the 5% state occupancy fee and Lambertville's 3% municipal occupancy tax, about 14.6% in total. Check your final bill, because some small inns quote rates with tax included and some don't.
Guests and ID. Hotels in the United States don't register guests with the police. Expect to show government photo ID and a credit card at check-in, with a hold for extras. B&Bs are different. In a house with eight rooms and a shared front door, many owners don't allow overnight visitors who aren't booked. Some lock the front door at night and give the code only to booked guests. Nobody will care that your visitor is a man. They will care that a stranger was in the hallway at 2 am.
The golden tip. If there's any chance you won't sleep alone, book the room for two adults from the start. At a B&B it usually costs little or nothing extra, and nobody will ask about visitors.
Minimum stays and cancellations. Small inns here often require two nights at weekends in season (confirm with each one). B&B cancellation rules also tend to be longer and stricter than a chain's. Read the policy before paying a deposit, especially for PrideFest week. Breakfast is normally included. These are small kitchens, so mention any dietary needs in advance.
Resort fees and parking. We don't know of any resort fees in town. Parking in central New Hope is the real cost. Much of it is metered, and several Main Street inns have little or no parking of their own. Porches on the Towpath lists off-street parking; check with the others.
Smoking. Assume every room is non-smoking. New Hope Inn & Suites, for example, says it can charge your card for extra cleaning.

The gay calendar and where to book for it
New Hope Celebrates Pride Pageant (spring)
The Pride Pageant is a ticketed drag pageant at the Bucks County Playhouse, run by New Hope Celebrates. It crowns Miss and Mr. New Hope Celebrates. The sixth edition was on Saturday 4 April 2026 at 6:30 pm. The 2027 date is TBA. As soon as it's announced, book the Ghost Light Inn next door or anything on Main Street. Early April is still off-season, so rooms are easier to find than in May.

New Hope PrideFest (May)
PrideFest has run since 2003 and is one of the first Prides of the American season. The 2026 festival ran from 9 to 17 May. It opened on the first Saturday with a flag unfurling and a tea dance, followed by midweek events (Pride With Purpose, bingo, the Love is Love Gala). The main day was Saturday 16 May: the parade at 11 am, the vendor fair, PrideFest Live and a dance party. A closing tea followed on Sunday. The parade starts in Lambertville and crosses the New Hope–Lambertville Bridge into New Hope, carrying the organisers' 100-foot rainbow flag.
The 2027 dates hadn't been announced as of November 2026. Our calendar has 8 to 16 May 2027 pencilled in, but treat that as a placeholder until New Hope Celebrates publishes the dates. For parade Saturday, the Main Street inns and the two Lambertville inns put you on or near the route. Olivia's and the Wedgwood are close enough to walk to the parade and up to The Cub Room. Rooms within walking distance of the bridge go first in a town this small, so book as soon as the dates are out. PrideFest Saturday is the one night The Cub Room and the Main Street bars are packed, so sort out your ride home before you go out.
The rest of the year
New Hope has no bear week, circuit party or other gay festival. New Hope Celebrates also runs history talks and smaller events through the year. Summer weekends are busy for everyone, gay and straight, and autumn leaf-peeping weekends fill the river inns. Midweek outside May is quiet, cheaper and, frankly, a bit sleepy.

Getting back at 3 am
Airports. Philadelphia International (PHL) is about 45 miles away, roughly an hour by car. Newark (EWR) is about 47 miles. Trenton-Mercer (TTN) is the closest at about 10 miles but has few flights. No useful public transport runs from any of them to New Hope, so plan on a rental car, a car service or a rideshare.
Rail. The nearest major station is Trenton Transit Center (Amtrak, NJ Transit and SEPTA). Uber gives the average UberX fare from New Hope to Trenton Transit Center as about US$41. There is no direct bus between Trenton and New Hope.
Night transport in town. There isn't any: no night bus, no late shuttle. Uber operates in New Hope, but there are fewer cars than in a city, and waits can be long late at night, especially at closing time on a Saturday. Book ahead if you can. If you're staying on Main Street and drinking at The Cub Room, sort out your ride home before last orders. Pennsylvania bars can serve until 2 am, but The Cub Room's listed hours have been noon to midnight, so check on the night.
Walking by street. Main Street, Mechanic Street, Ferry Street and the bridge are fine at any hour. West Bridge Street east of the Wedgwood is residential and safe. West of there, towards The Cub Room, the danger is traffic and darkness rather than people. River Road south to River House at Odette's is empty at night, so take a car if it's late or wet. Don't walk along Route 202.
Health, safety and the law
Legal position. Same-sex relationships and marriage are legal in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and federal law bars employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. New Hope and Lambertville are among the most comfortable small towns in the region for gay couples.
PEP and PrEP. New Hope has no LGBTQ+ health centre. The nearest specialist is Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia, about an hour away; check its website for current addresses and walk-in hours. PEP needs to start within 72 hours of exposure, so go to a hospital emergency department. The nearest include Doylestown Hospital on the Pennsylvania side and Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell on the New Jersey side. PrEP needs a US prescription, and telehealth services can prescribe it if you're staying a while.
App dates. Dating apps work. In a town this small, your matches will mostly be other visitors, weekenders from Philadelphia and New York, and men from the surrounding Bucks and Hunterdon counties. Meet first at a bar or restaurant, tell someone where you're going, and keep valuables out of sight in your room. If you're in a B&B, remember its visitor rules before inviting anyone back. We have no verified reports of incidents targeting gay visitors in New Hope in 2025 or 2026, but that isn't a guarantee.
Drugs and cannabis. New Jersey allows adults over 21 to buy cannabis from licensed dispensaries. At our last check, Pennsylvania allowed it only for medical use. Walking back over the bridge from Lambertville with cannabis takes it into a state where possession is an offence (check current Pennsylvania law before you travel). Other drugs are illegal in both states. Small inns have zero tolerance, and the owners live on site.
Smoking and drinking. Smoking is banned in most indoor public places in both states, and every inn listed here is non-smoking. Don't carry open drinks along Main Street; keep them on bar terraces.

Three picks
Budget: New Hope Inn & Suites. The only big property in the area, with an outdoor pool, out on Route 202. It's no beauty and you'll need a car, but it's a short ride to The Cub Room, and it often still has rooms when the B&Bs are full for PrideFest. Check rates directly.
Mid-range: Fox and Hound B&B. With the Lodge closed and the Wishing Well gone, this 1840s stone house on West Bridge Street is the nearest open B&B to the town's only gay bar, 11–13 minutes away. You can still walk to dinner on Main Street in 15–17 minutes. If you'd rather be at the restaurant end, choose Porches on the Towpath instead.
Splurge: River House at Odette's. River-view rooms and a proper bar and restaurant, on the site of the old Odette's piano bar, a big part of New Hope's gay cabaret history. It's 11–13 minutes on foot to Main Street; take a car to The Cub Room. For a quieter, smaller luxury stay, try the Inn at Bowman's Hill.
Frequently asked

Is there a gay hotel in New Hope?
Not as of November 2026. The Raven closed in 2019 and the Wishing Well Guest House is reported closed. The New Hope Lodge (home of The Cub Room) was sold and wasn't taking bookings in August 2026. Gay visitors stay at mainstream B&Bs and inns, which are reliably welcoming.
Is The Cub Room still open after the New Hope Lodge sale?
Yes. The owner signed a five-year lease with the new owners in May 2026, and they have said the bar stays open while the Lodge's rooms are renovated.

Which hotel is closest to The Cub Room?
The Fox and Hound B&B at 246 West Bridge Street, about 11–13 minutes on foot. The 1870 Wedgwood Inn is 17–19 minutes away and much closer to Main Street.
Is there a men-only or clothing-optional guesthouse in New Hope?
No. There's no men-only or clothing-optional place in New Hope or Lambertville, and there's been no gay pool scene since The Raven closed.

What is the hotel tax in New Hope?
11% on the Pennsylvania side (6% state plus 5% Bucks County). In Lambertville, New Jersey, it's about 14.6% (6.625% sales tax, 5% state occupancy fee and 3% city tax).
Can I bring a guest back to my B&B?
Ask first. Large hotels don't register visitors, but many small B&Bs don't allow overnight guests who aren't booked. Booking the room for two adults from the start avoids the problem.

When is New Hope PrideFest 2027?
Not announced as of November 2026. The 2026 festival ran 9 to 17 May, with the parade from Lambertville into New Hope on Saturday 16 May. Expect a similar mid-May slot, and book once New Hope Celebrates confirms the dates.
