Santiago's hotel market is well-developed. Most reputable hotels in the neighborhoods we recommend will welcome same-sex couples without issue. The city doesn't have a specific "gay hotel" scene like some other destinations, but the general hospitality infrastructure is professional, and the upscale neighborhoods are broadly tolerant.
Where to stay
Barrio Bellavista itself has few hotel options. It's mostly residential and geared towards nightlife. The most practical hotel base is Providencia, the upscale neighborhood just east of the city center. It has a good range of mid-range and business hotels, and you can get to Bellavista easily by Metro or Uber.
Las Condes and Vitacura are the city's upscale business hotel zones, further east. You'll find international chains here, good infrastructure, and they feel very safe. They're further from Bellavista, but the Metro (Line 1 to Baquedano) or Uber make the trip simple.
Barrio Italia has some smaller boutique hotels and guesthouses. These work for travelers who want to be right in the neighborhood. They're usually more unique and cheaper than what you'd find in Providencia or Las Condes.
The hotels
- Hotel Luciano K — The rooms are unusual, and the location is superb. It's right across from the park, a 10-minute walk to the funicular, 15 minutes to the markets and city center. A few blocks behind it, you'll find the Lastarria district, full of restaurants, bars, cafes, markets, and buskers. The staff are superb—friendly, helpful, and eager to carry bags, explain the area, and book cabs or restaurants. There's plenty of closet space and a decent-sized safe. Breakfast is basic but fine.
- Hotel Patio Yungay — This hotel is very cute and nicely decorated. The rooftop terrace is amazing on warm nights.
- VERSO HOTEL — It's close to Pablo Neruda's house. Rooms highlight Latin American authors. The staff are extremely gay-friendly and welcoming. There are two rooftop hot tubs you can reserve.
- W Santiago — The staff are attentive and professional. The hotel overlooks a park and is within walking distance of many key spots.
Practical notes
Santiago hotels cost more than similar options in Colombia or Brazilian cities, though still less than European capitals. Book in advance if you're coming for June Pride. Winter rates (June–August) can be slightly lower outside the Pride window.
Hotel security is generally good in the recommended neighborhoods. Earthquakes are a reality here—modern hotels are built to anti-seismic standards. If a significant earthquake happens, follow hotel emergency procedures and staff instructions.
