About this place Gio

Gio was an upscale restaurant at the Prince George Hotel, 1725 Market Street, in downtown Halifax, in the higher price bracket. It was a mainstream restaurant listed as gay-friendly, not a gay venue, and had a good reputation, with about 290 Google reviews averaging 4.6. We believe Gio closed in 2020, and the hotel's dining has changed since then. Check current listings before planning a meal here.

We had a group dinner here the other night, not only was the service impeccable, the food was downright delicious.

I wish I had taken photos of my meal because it always helps with understanding how great some dishes can be. Everything about this place comes across as professional and NOT overly comfortable or familiar. What a refreshing change from so many spots nowawadays. I had grilled squid to start, followed by the pork chop with a pomme purée and corn chutney, with a kalamansi tart for dessert. All dishes were phenomenal. If you are visiting Halifax and looking for a restaurant that is upscale, efficient, and with a fusion style cuisine, maybe consider GIO. I'm glad I did.

Great oyster and lobster. Not much of a vibe though. Martini wasn’t bad either.

The service was amazing! We ordered almost all of the appetizers to share, and everything was absolutely delicious. The main course was simply to die for! ❤️ The food is cooked to perfection, and the presentation is truly a work of art — you can see the talent and attention to detail in every plate. The service is WOW! The staff are professional, attentive, and really know how to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable, no matter their personality. We had such a wonderful experience from beginning to end and would definitely recommend this place. Amazing food, beautiful presentation, and outstanding service! 👏❤️ A special thank you to Terri for the incredible service — you’re the best! You truly made our evening even more enjoyable. ❤️ Fanny, Jordan, Philipé & André Guy

The seafood chowder at Gio was delicious and the portion was very generous. It was packed with halibut, haddock, shrimp and scallops in a rich, creamy broth that still let the flavour of the seafood come through. The sourdough was perfect for dipping, especially with what tasted like rosemary butter. Definitely a filling dish and one I’d order again.”

Was blown away with our special date night here. The food and drinks were fantastic, the presentation was top shelf. The service was incredible even though the servers were busy. The timing of drinks and food were well planned out, the atmosphere was really nice too. Would definitely recommend and will be back!
