About This Event
Boston's Pride parade dates to 1971 and is the largest in New England, but the organisation behind it is new. The old Boston Pride dissolved in 2021 after a revolt by its own volunteers over its handling of race and inclusion, and the city went three years without a parade. Boston Pride for the People, a volunteer-run nonprofit, brought it back in 2023 and has run it since. President Adrianna Boulin is the public face.
How it works: it is one Saturday in June, free, and centred on the Back Bay. The parade steps off at 11:00 from Copley Square, runs through parts of the South End and Back Bay, and finishes on Charles Street between the Public Garden and Boston Common. On the Common there is an all-ages festival and concert in the afternoon, plus a block party that runs into the early evening. Bar and club parties carry on into the night.
Practical: Boston hotels in June are expensive and fill with graduations, so book early or stay along the Red or Orange line and ride in. Copley and Back Bay stations get very crowded around the start. June weather swings from cool and rainy to properly hot.
On numbers, the organisers say more than one million people attended in 2025 and roughly the same in 2026. That is their estimate, not an independent count, and we'd treat it as the crowd along the whole route plus the Common over the day. Bay Windows reported about 12,000 marchers in around 300 contingents in 2026.
The 2026 edition was on Saturday 6 June, a week earlier than usual to stay clear of World Cup matches in Boston, under the theme Pride as Protest Since 1776, tied to the US 250th anniversary. Governor Maura Healey and Mayor Michelle Wu joined the ribbon-cutting. The 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked.
