About this place Marsha P. Johnson State Park

Marsha P. Johnson State Park is a seven-acre state park on the East River waterfront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with lawns and views across to Manhattan. Formerly East River State Park, it was renamed in 2020 for Marsha P. Johnson (1945-1992), the Black trans activist, Stonewall veteran and co-founder, with Sylvia Rivera, of Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR). It was the first New York state park named after an LGBTQ+ person. The park is free and open daily, with the entrance on Kent Avenue at North 8th Street. It is busiest on summer weekends and during Pride month.
