The GayOut Edit

Luxury Gay Miami

Five-star Miami runs on the same sand as the rainbow tower: Forbes-starred pools, Michelin-starred tables and drag brunch on Ocean Drive, all inside one winter-season golden triangle.

Miami is the rare city where the luxury district and the gay district are the same beach. Our #1 pick, The Setai — Forbes Five-Star every year since 2014, Two Michelin Keys — is a ten-minute barefoot walk from the 12th Street rainbow lifeguard tower, and the rest of this list fans out from there: Faena's cabaret theatrics, Ian Schrager's EDITION playground, Thomas Keller's Surf Club. Come November through April: Art Basel, Winter Party and Pride bookend the season.

How we choose

7 Michelin stars across six tables · 4 Forbes Five-Star resorts · 7 Michelin Keys

  • Luxury threshold: five stars, an opening rate above $500 a night, or a recognised luxury marque (Forbes Five-Star, Michelin Key, EDITION, Four Seasons, St. Regis).
  • A real gay signal: gay travel press coverage, an LGBTQ+ marketing track record, or sand between the hotel and the 12th Street rainbow lifeguard tower. Tiers: Gay Luxury (the scene checks in here) or Gay-Welcoming Luxury.
  • The golden rule: if a city can't fill a page honestly, we don't build the page. Hotels never pay for inclusion.

Experiences, done properly

The scene, elevated

Luxury Miami and gay Miami share a zip code: the 12th Street beach — rainbow lifeguard tower, Ocean Drive at 12th — sits ten minutes' walk from the Setai and three blocks from the Betsy. Palace ("every queen needs a Palace") runs drag brunch Friday to Monday, Twist's seven rooms pour 3pm-5am daily — Miami New Times' 2026 Best Gay Bar — and the season's anchor is Winter Party Festival, March 5-8 2027, ten thousand guests strong.

Miami

Good to know

When is the best season for a luxury gay trip to Miami?

Late November through April: dry-season sun, the ocean still swimmable, and a calendar that stacks Art Basel in early December, Winter Party Festival on March 5-8 2027 and Miami Beach Pride in April. It is also peak pricing — the Setai opens around $800 in winter — so book suites two to three months out.

What about hurricane season — is it a real risk?

Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, peaking August-October. Direct hits are rare in any given year, but they happen; from late November the risk drops sharply. If you book fall shoulder-season rates, choose flexible cancellation — the five-stars here all sell refundable rates.

What is the etiquette at the 12th Street gay beach?

It is a public city beach marked by the rainbow lifeguard tower at 12th and Ocean — cruisy-social, not clothing-optional; keep the swimwear on (Haulover Beach's designated naturist section, twenty minutes north, is the legal nude option). Rent loungers on site, tip the vendors, and expect the crowd to peak weekend afternoons.

Florida politics look hostile — is Miami Beach actually safe for gay travellers?

Statewide politics and local reality diverge sharply. Miami Beach repeatedly earns top scores on HRC's Municipal Equality Index, Miami-Dade's human-rights ordinance has covered sexual orientation and gender identity since 2014, and the city itself funds LGBTQ+ tourism marketing. Same-sex couples are unremarkable everywhere on the beach.

Which neighbourhood should a luxury gay traveller choose?

South Beach (Setai, W, 1 Hotel, Betsy) for walking to the gay beach, Twist and Palace; Mid Beach (Faena, EDITION) for scene-adjacent theatrics a short ride away; Surfside and Bal Harbour (Surf Club, St. Regis) for quiet-money privacy and shopping, about twenty minutes by car from the rainbow tower.
