Gay Park City

Park City is a former silver-mining town that became a ski resort. It’s in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, about 40 minutes east of Salt Lake City. You probably know it for Park City Mountain, Deer Valley Resort, the Utah Olympic Park, or for hosting the Sundance Film Festival every January. If you’re an LGBTQ+ traveler, think of it as a relaxed mountain spot, not a party town: there are no gay bars, clubs, or saunas here. Still, there’s a real local community, an annual gay ski week, and Salt Lake City’s full scene is an easy drive away.

Is there a gay scene in Park City?

No, not in the traditional sense. Park City is a small resort town, population around 8,000. No gay bars, no gay clubs, no gay bathhouses. You won't find cruising areas. What you will find is a welcoming, liberal vibe that’s unusual for this part of Utah. There's a local LGBTQ+ nonprofit that puts on a June Pride, and a long-running gay ski week that paints the resort rainbow for one week each winter. If you want a lively bar scene year-round, just plan a day or evening trip down to Salt Lake City.

Elevation Utah: Park City's gay ski week

Park City’s main LGBTQ+ event is Elevation Utah, one of the oldest gay ski weeks in the US. It runs for five days in late February, using both Park City Mountain and Deer Valley Resort. Around 1,200 to 1,500 LGBTQ+ skiers and snowboarders come from all over the country and abroad.

The schedule mixes daytime skiing (including early "First Tracks" sessions) with a Main Street welcome party, daily après events in Old Town, a Saturday Pride gathering on the mountain, DJ dance parties, themed nights, and a farewell party. Elevation gay ski series produces it, working with local nonprofit Summit Pride. Dates for 2027 weren’t confirmed when we wrote this, but it’s usually in late February.

Summit Pride and Park City Pride

Summit Pride is the LGBTQ+ nonprofit for Park City and the wider Summit County / Wasatch Back. It started as the Park City LGBTQ+ Task Force in 2021, becoming an independent 501(c)(3) in 2024. Summit Pride organizes a June Pride Month, with a Park City march and celebration. It also runs scholarships and parent-support groups, hosts Pride Voices library events, and partners on Elevation. If you’re after community more than nightlife, Summit Pride is where you start.

Nightlife: gay-friendly bars and après-ski

Park City's nightlife centers on Historic Main Street in Old Town. Bars there are mainstream but generally laid-back and friendly. The No Name Saloon (447 Main Street) is the town’s most famous spot. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, breweries, and après-ski places around the resort bases. None are exclusively gay, but they're comfortable for LGBTQ+ visitors. During Elevation week, several Main Street spots (like The Downstairs at 625 Main Street) host the festival’s gay parties, so the town’s nightlife briefly turns explicitly queer.

Hotels cluster in a few areas. Deer Valley has the luxury flagships — Montage Deer Valley, Stein Eriksen Lodge, and The St. Regis Deer Valley — all ski-in/ski-out with big spas. Canyons Village, at the other base of Park City Mountain, has the Waldorf Astoria Park City and the Hyatt Centric Park City. Old Town puts you walking distance from Main Street (Hotel Park City, Autograph Collection sits nearby). Kimball Junction offers more practical, value options like Newpark Resort. All are mainstream properties that welcome LGBTQ+ guests; Park City doesn't have gay-specific hotels.

The nearest full gay scene: Salt Lake City

For dedicated gay bars, clubs, and a bathhouse, drive to Salt Lake City, about 40 minutes west. SLC’s scene includes long-running bars like Sun Trapp (Utah’s oldest gay bar) and Club Try-Angles, the LGBTQ+ nightclub MILK+, and the bathhouse Club 14. Salt Lake City also hosts the Utah Pride Festival in early June, the state’s biggest Pride event. Many visitors stay in Park City for the mountains and head to Salt Lake City for a night out.

Safety and legal status

Same-sex activity has been legal across the United States since 2003, and same-sex marriage nationwide since 2015, with federal protections against employment discrimination. Utah is more conservative than the coasts, but Park City is one of its most liberal, welcoming communities. LGBTQ+ travelers won't run into issues in hotels, on the slopes, or out to dinner. Just use standard mountain-town common sense.

Getting there and around

Salt Lake City International Airport is about 35–40 minutes away. Almost all visitors arrive there; shuttles and rideshares run regularly to Park City. In town, a free bus system connects Old Town, the resort bases, and Kimball Junction, so you don't need a car once you’re here, though it helps for trips to Salt Lake City.
