Chitose

Came to this legendary Okonomiyaki place for Osaka-style yaki. This is probably the best Osaka-style Okonomiyaki you will find and it is made right in front of you (if you are sitting kitchen side). We had the vegetarian option "Mochi & Cheese", with the option to top it with a fried egg. It seems like the Soy & Tofu option has been discontinued. We also met the owner who's been looking after the restaurant for decades, and he is a really nice man.

This isn't the kind of okonomiyaki that any decent Osaka resident would line up for. It's just average.

Pork Mix Okonomiyaki + Modern [Chitose] @ Taishi, Nishinari-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. This popular okonomiyaki restaurant has been loved in Nishinari for over half a century since its founding in 1959. It's a very small, cozy, and homey space with only 4 counter seats in front of the griddle and 2 tables. You can enjoy exquisite okonomiyaki carefully grilled right in front of you, in a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The generous amount of grated yam gives it a light, smooth texture and softness, while the cabbage is surprisingly crisp and sweet. By grilling it slowly without pressing it down much, the texture and flavor of the ingredients are brought out, and the generous portions of pork and shrimp give it a luxurious feel with more filling than batter. Unlike typical sweet okonomiyaki sauces, this one has a crisp acidity and a rich flavor, yet a light aftertaste that makes it easy to eat. This is addictive!

The pricing is extremely unclear. I ordered a pork okonomiyaki and added a modern-style okonomiyaki, but was charged 1350 yen. The only receipt I received was a PayPay statement. When I returned to the restaurant and checked, I was refunded 250 yen in cash. I believe the total should have been 1050 yen. Even if it was tax, the calculation doesn't add up. Please be aware that this restaurant does not issue detailed receipts.

Fantastic and lively vibe inside Chitose! Insanely good okonomiyaki! We enjoyed our dinner so much we immediately decided to return the next day. Spoiler: we failed to check the schedule and turned up to a closed shop. Important tip: Closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Highly recommended otherwise.

Oshi! I arrived right around closing time, and they were kind enough to serve me a meal (try to get there much earlier). The okonomiyaki was delicious and prepared fresh on the griddle by the family... highly recommended.

It's hot, but I had okonomiyaki [No photography allowed] I stopped by on my way back from the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts. It's a 12-minute walk from the museum. It's hot... Photography is prohibited. Arrived at 12:30 PM on a Sunday. Two groups were waiting. They took my order first. I ordered: • Squid and pork okonomiyaki - 1200 yen • Mixed pork yakisoba - 1300 yen *Confirmed that takeout was available, so I ordered both. I was seated inside in just under 10 minutes. Four counter seats, two tables with four seats each. Two people cooking, one washing dishes, and one taking orders and handling payments. It felt like there were a lot of staff for the size of the restaurant. It was incredibly hot, especially in front of the griddle... The ingredients were large and dynamic, making it a substantial portion. The noodles were medium-thick. The cabbage didn't seem to be shredded. The filling was substantial, and I got full quickly, so we took half home. The container cost 30 yen.
