About the event

We’re wrapping up another fantastic year of Tom Social hiking adventures with a beautiful bushwalk, spectacular mountain scenery and a refreshing swim at one of South East Queensland’s hidden waterfalls!
For our final hike of the year, we’re heading to Mount Barney National Park to explore the picturesque Cronan Creek Falls Track. This 13km return adventure takes us through open countryside, lush rainforest and scenic creek crossings before reaching a secluded waterfall and natural swimming hole.
The Hike
Starting from Yellow Pinch car park, we’ll follow a scenic trail through the foothills of Mount Barney, taking in beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.
The walk winds through a mixture of open grassy landscapes and shaded rainforest, with several creek crossings and gentle climbs along the way. There are a few hills to get the heart pumping, but the real reward comes towards the end of the trail.
Hidden just off the main track, Cronan Creek Falls is a beautiful little oasis surrounded by towering rock formations and lush greenery. We’ll stop here for a well-earned break, enjoy some lunch and, for those feeling adventurous, take a refreshing dip in the natural swimming hole.
After soaking up the scenery, we’ll make our way back along the trail, bringing our final hiking adventure of the year to a close.
Hike Details

Location: Mount Barney National Park, Scenic Rim
Starting point: Yellow Pinch car park
Distance: Approximately 13km return
Duration: Approximately 5 hours, plus time for swimming and breaks
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation gain: Approximately 440m
Terrain: Fire trails, uneven bush tracks, creek crossings and some rocky sections
Swimming: Optional at Cronan Creek Falls

While much of the walk follows a relatively straightforward fire trail, the distance, hills, creek crossings and rocky access to the falls mean a reasonable level of fitness is required. This hike is best suited to members who are comfortable walking longer distances over uneven terrain.
What to Bring

Comfortable hiking shoes with good grip
Plenty of drinking water
Packed lunch and snacks
Swimmers and a small towel
Sunscreen, hat and insect repellent
Water shoes or spare footwear for creek crossings
A small backpack for your belongings
A waterproof bag for valuables and electronics

Be prepared to get your feet wet! The track includes several creek crossings, and water levels can vary depending on recent rainfall.
Getting There
We’ll be organising carpooling options from Brisbane to help members travel together and reduce the number of cars heading to the trailhead.
Meeting locations, departure times and carpool arrangements will be confirmed closer to the event.

Registrations will open closer to the event.
