About the event

In November's book club, we'll discuss a fast-paced action satire and a humorous family drama about clinging to childhood traumas.
E. Saarinen: Jane Blond and the Coldfingers (2026, BoD) The fifth Jane Blond spy parody can be relied upon to function with its familiar action-packed concept, crowned with puns. The HMSS lesbian agents and villains of the underworld compete and seduce each other this time in a treasure hunt on Woman Island and the Norwegian Sea. Competitions, behind-the-scenes, revelations in the style of the big world.
Twenty years have passed since the first publication of the series, Jane Blond and Doctor Maybe (2006). Congratulations to the creators for their vigorously all-lesbian production! The reading bats will once again throw themselves into the ride of caricatures and neigh along.
Marie Aubert: I'm Not Like That (2025, Gummerus, trans. Aino Ahonen) Over the weekend of the confirmation party, tensions in a Norwegian family bubble up across three generations. The perspectives of middle-aged siblings Bård and Hanne, their father Nils, and Bård's daughter Linnea reveal how easily one's own anxiety is projected onto the faults of others, and how mistakes are not always learned from.
Hanne, arriving from Oslo for her goddaughter's party, encounters old relationships in her hometown radically changed after weight loss surgery and with her first female partner Julia. However, self-esteem crippled by social rejection has not been trimmed with external change. The new relationship also doesn't feel deserved.
