What is the price you pay to live openly and in accordance with your own identity when the surrounding society asks you to hide it?
“The Price of Being Me”, the documentary by Georgian director Lia Jaqeli, talks about identity, authenticity, and the personal cost of self-acceptance in a conservative social context.
The film highlights the experiences of queer people in Georgia and the social pressures, prejudices, and discrimination they face when they choose not to hide their identity.
Made in 2011, the documentary is part of the work of Lia Jaqeli and StudioMobile – Accent on Action to bring the experiences of marginalized communities and issues related to human rights and equality into the public space.
