Film Screening: Return to Haifa
On Monday, 2 November, QueerHub Nieuw-West will host a screening of Return to Haifa by Palestinian filmmaker Kassem Hawal. The screening is part of Palestine Cinema Days Around the World 2026, a global initiative by Filmlab Palestine that brings people together around the world to keep Palestinian stories present and visible. On 2 November, cultural spaces, cinemas, universities, collectives and communities across the world become part of one shared global screen.
About the film
Return to Haifa follows a Palestinian couple returning to Haifa after the 1967 war. They search for the son they were forced to leave behind during the Nakba in 1948. When they find him, they discover that he has grown up as the adopted son of an Israeli family and is now a soldier.The film is directed by Kassem Hawal and has a running time of 77 minutes. After the screening, we will continue with a facilitated dialogue, creating space for reflection, context and conversation about the themes addressed in the film.
Sharing a Palestinian meal
Our very own Mohammad will prepare a Palestinian meal for the evening: maqluba and mujaddara, served with salad, yoghurt and cucumber. By sharing film, conversation and food, we come together to listen, connect and make space for stories that too often go unheard.
