Petra Meterc: Fourth Period of Palestinian Cinema: Everyday Occupation Between the Personal and the Political
September 8, 2026, 6:00 PM, OBRAT, space for art and participation
LECTURE
In the lecture, we will get to know the so-called fourth period of Palestinian cinema, the period from the 1980s to the present day, characterized by the authorial poetics of directors such as Michel Khleifi, Rashid Masharawi, Elia Suleiman, and others. While in the past Palestinian cinema focused on the political and collective Palestinian experience, often in the form of documentaries made in exile, in this period the cinematic gaze shifts to the reality of Palestinians in the occupied territories, with a focus on more intimate stories.
The discussion after the lecture will be led by Maja Pan.
