About This Event

Porto Alegre Pride, or Parada Livre, pulls in around 200,000 people every year. It’s one of Brazil's biggest LGBTQ+ events, definitely the top one in the south, and important nationally.

The parade and festival show off Porto Alegre's progressive streak. This city has been a center for Brazilian left-wing politics for decades. LGBTQ+ rights here have roots, too, with groups like Nuances active since 1991.

Parada Livre happens on Avenida Borges de Medeiros, right by Guaíba lake. The setting, with that lake, is one of Brazil's most beautiful for a Pride event. The parade ends with a festival on the lakeside esplanade. You’ll find multiple stages with live acts, political speeches from LGBTQ+ advocates and politicians, and a full display of queer culture from southern Brazil.

Bars in the Cidade Baixa neighborhood put on special Pride events all week. Porto Alegre Pride has a specific Gaúcho feel: it’s serious politically, not just a party like some other Brazilian Prides. The crowd here cares about both the politics and the celebration.
