About the event

selma banich and the Politics of Touch Collective
The workshop is based on the work "Erased Gazes," a memorial canvas in memory of the erased, by authors selma banich and the collective of the project Politics of Touch (Aber Gendy, Ana Lora, Ivana Lukić, and Slavica Đuričić in collaboration with Ana Dano Beroš and Saša Nemec). The project was initiated and produced by City of Women.
In 1992, shortly after Slovenia's secession from Yugoslavia, the administrative bodies of the Republic of Slovenia arbitrarily and illegally erased more than 25,000 people from the permanent resident register. The erased thus became foreigners in their own country: without the right to work, without health insurance, and many were deported or forced to leave the country.
The "Erased Gazes" canvas was created within workshops designed and led by selma banich, which took place from July 2022 in Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The participants were women who now live in Ljubljana, Logatec, and Zagreb. Among them are individuals with direct or family experience of erasure, asylum seekers, activists, researchers, and students.
The event will take place as part of the event "Archival Chain Reactions: Gaps in the Archive and Forgotten Connections – Closing Weekend". More information https://mestozensk.
