International Conference: Europe Meets Egypt. Maximilian I of Mexico and Anton Lavrin

The international scientific conference Europe Meets Egypt is dedicated to the diplomat and collector of Egyptian antiquities Anton Lavrin and Archduke Maximilian I of Mexico.
In April this year, the exhibition Sphinx Attracts Him: Maximilian Habsburg and Egyptian Collections between Trieste and Vienna opened in the former stables of Miramar Castle near Trieste. In cooperation with the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, a significant part of the collection, which was transferred to Vienna in the 19th century, is exceptionally returning to Trieste until September. Part of this extensive collection includes objects that Maximilian acquired in the mid-19th century with the help of Anton Lavrin (1789–1869), who, among other things, sent a human mummy from Egypt to Carniola.

The conference will take place in the Atrium of ZRC, Novi trg 2, Ljubljana.
