Sant Antoni de Portmany - San Antonio to most visitors - sits on Ibiza's northwest coast and is best known as the island's mainstream party and sunset capital, home of the West End nightlife strip and the world-famous "Sunset Strip" bars. It is not a historic gay quarter. Ibiza's dedicated LGBTQ+ scene has always been concentrated in Ibiza Town, about 15 kilometres east. What San Antonio offers queer travellers is a relaxed, gay-friendly beach base - a small cluster of LGBTQ+ and LGBTQ+-welcoming hotels, sunset bars with an open, mixed crowd, and easy bus and boat links to the island's gay nightlife.
Where the Gay Scene Actually Is
San Antonio has no gay village and, as of 2026, no dedicated gay bars or clubs. The island's gay nightlife lives in Ibiza Town's old quarter of Sa Penya, along Carrer de la Mare de Deu (often called "Calle de la Virgen"), where the gay bars cluster around the port. From San Antonio the fastest link is the L3 bus (roughly 20-30 minutes) or a taxi, and a summer discobus runs late at night. Treat San Antonio as a daytime and sunset base and Ibiza Town as the night-time destination.
Sunset Bars and Daytime Spots
San Antonio's signature experience is sunset over the Ponent bay. Cafe del Mar, Cafe Mambo and Mint Lounge draw huge, open-minded crowds every evening, and while none is a gay venue, all are relaxed and welcoming. Hostal La Torre, on the cliffs at Cap Negret just north of town, is a boho-chic sunset spot popular with a gay-friendly crowd. These are mixed, casual places rather than scene bars.

Accommodation is San Antonio's real strength for LGBTQ+ visitors. The Purple Hotel (Carrer d'Antoni Riquer 23) is the area's only gay-only hotel - an adults-only, refurbished 24-room property a few minutes from the harbour, and the first LGBT hotel in the San Antonio area. Pikes Ibiza (Cami de Sa Vorera) is the legendary hedonistic boutique hotel where Wham!'s "Club Tropicana" video was filmed, long a favourite of an LGBTQ+-friendly crowd. Wi-Ki-Woo and NYX Hotel Ibiza are quirky adults-only boutique hotels on the sunset side that market themselves as LGBTQ+-friendly, and Vibra District is a lively adults-only party hotel. Book well ahead for July and August.
There is no gay beach in San Antonio itself. The west-coast beaches of Cala Comte (Cala Conta) and Cala Bassa are the scenic favourites, with a bohemian, mixed and partly nudist crowd at Cala Comte. Ibiza's designated gay-nudist beach, Es Cavallet, is on the far southeast of the island near Ibiza Town and the Ses Salines salt flats - a day trip from San Antonio rather than a local option.
Events and Pride
San Antonio does not host its own Pride. Ibiza Pride is the island-wide celebration, held in June (2026: 6-13 June, with the main parade on Saturday 13 June). The programme traditionally opens with events in San Antonio before the main march and parties move to Ibiza Town. Through the summer, international gay tour operators and DJ collectives run circuit parties across the island, most of them in Ibiza Town and at the big clubs rather than in San Antonio.
Transit and Getting Around
San Antonio lies about 15 kilometres northwest of Ibiza Town and 20-25 kilometres from Ibiza Airport (20-30 minutes by taxi or the L9 airport bus in summer). Regular buses connect to Ibiza Town (L3), the beaches and the airport, and a summer discobus serves the clubs late at night. The town centre and harbour are compact and walkable, and boats run from San Antonio to the west-coast beaches.

San Antonio's harbour and the Passeig de Ses Fonts are lined with casual Mediterranean and international restaurants serving seafood, tapas and paella. Dinner runs late, typically from 8pm. Dining is fully integrated and gay-friendly rather than scene-specific.
