Bristol: The Progressive South-West

Bristol's LGBTQ+ scene feels like the city itself: independent, artsy, progressive, and sized just right. It's not as big as the cities up north, and that's a good thing.

Old Market, east of the centre, is the area to know - Bristol's "gay village", with the BBB - Bristol Bear Bar, the Old Market Tavern and the queer-friendly The Phoenix Pub. For clubs, head to Frogmore Street near Park Street, where OMG Bristol is the biggest gay venue in the South West and The Queen Shilling has been going since 1992.

Bristol Pride in July draws tens of thousands of people, with a free parade from Castle Park and a festival on The Downs. From London Paddington, you're here in about 90 minutes on the high-speed train.
