The honest summary: Bristol's gay bars fit into two short walks. Old Market, east of Cabot Circus, has the pubs and the bear bar; Frogmore Street, below Park Street, has the clubs. Nothing is huge, everything is friendly, and on a Saturday you can cover the lot. Here's what's open in October 2026, with addresses and hours from the venues' own sites or their Google listings.

Legal in one line: same-sex relationships and marriage are fully legal in England (marriage since March 2014), and the Equality Act 2010 bans discrimination by bars and businesses.

Old Market: the village pubs

Old Market is about ten minutes' walk from Temple Meads station. Gay businesses have been here since the mid-1990s and Bristol Pride still calls it "The Village".

    • Bristol Bear Bar (BBB), 2 West Street, BS2 0BH: the UK's only purpose-built bear bar and the busiest bar in the village, with Euphoria nights, drag cabaret and the Harness fetish night. Open Wednesday to Sunday from early evening, until 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays; closed Mondays. Its website no longer works, so use its Facebook page.
    • Old Market Tavern (OMT), 29-30 Old Market Street: a traditional gay pub with food and a garden, and a Pride quiz on the first Sunday of the month. Open from 14:00 daily.
    • The Phoenix, 1 Wellington Buildings, Champion Square: queer-owned since 2010 (per misterb&b), with a big beer garden and roasts. The indie-pop night Don't Tell Your Mother (DTYM) runs on the first Saturday of the month. Closed Mondays.
    • Old Castle Green, 46 Gloucester Lane: an independent pub that Bristol Pride lists as an LGBTQ+ social venue, with quizzes and cabaret.
    • To The Moon, 27-29 Midland Road: a small cocktail and craft-beer bar, popular with the LGBTQ+ crowd but not a gay bar. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Frogmore Street and the centre: the clubs

Frogmore Street is on the western side of the centre, about 20 minutes' walk from Old Market.

    • OMG, 1-2 Frog Lane (off Frogmore Street): the biggest gay club in Bristol, with chart pop, cheap drinks and a young crowd. Poundemonium on Wednesdays is the student night, and the OMG bar next door reopened in April 2025. Open late Wednesday to Saturday.
    • Queenshilling, 9 Frogmore Street: the city's longest-running LGBTQ+ club, going since the early 1990s. Karaoke on Mondays (doors 21:00), club nights Friday and Saturday (doors 22:00), and the ESDR drag night.
    • Rush, 16-24 Baldwin Street: an LGBTQ+ club that opened in late 2025 in the old Popworld unit, with themed nights from Wednesday to Saturday from 22:00.

    Queer nights in mainstream venues

Much of Bristol's queer nightlife is run by promoters. Loco Klub, in the tunnels under Temple Meads, has hosted Riot's Pride after-party and Sober Queers' alcohol-free nights. Strange Brew on Fairfax Street hosts Soft Butch and CONQUEER, and Seamus O'Donnells, an Irish pub on St Nicholas Street, has drag and karaoke nights. Gay As F*ck and Horseplay pop up at different clubs. Check Headfirst Bristol, Skiddle or our events page for dates.

    Closed or changed

    • Gin Palace, Old Market Street: closed in 2018.
    • Sparta / Lads Locker Room, West Street: Bristol's last gay sauna, closed in January 2023.
    • MiX: older guides list this monthly night at The Phoenix; the night running there now is DTYM.

    Tips

    • Start in Old Market around 20:00, then take a taxi or walk 20 minutes to Frogmore Street after 23:00.
    • Wednesday is student night at OMG and Rush; Friday and Saturday are the big nights everywhere.
    • Contactless is accepted almost everywhere; some clubs charge a small entry fee late at night.
