About this place The Connaught Hotel

A 1960s-built hotel on Tettenhall Road, near West Park and about a kilometre from the city centre. It has around 60 en-suite rooms and large banqueting rooms that are used mainly for weddings and community events. The current operator describes it as newly refurbished and offers free parking, free WiFi and airport transfers. It has traded under other names, including the Quality Hotel, and was used for asylum accommodation for a while, so older reviews may describe a different operation. Check recent reviews before booking. Mainstream hotel, not a gay venue.

Awful !! Cigarette burns and rips in the net curtain, carpet filthy, windows filthy, smell of smoke in rooms and hallway.

Checking in was quick. Person at the front didn’t care. No lift. Walking up, the carpets are just awful. Our room was ok, unclean when you look closer. Shower was working well and clean inside. Not entirely sure the lock worked for our door and lots of people going in and out. We got this room for £50 between 2 on a Tuesday night so cannot complain about the price. Walls are paper thin. Would not stay again.

Awful hotel. Please never stay there. We stayed on Saturday 8th August 2026 and the car park is very dodgy and so many pots holes my tiers aren’t happy at all. The bed is like sleeping on concrete. In room 207 the heating is always on we stayed and it was 30 degrees but with the heating on made It very uncomfortable as we couldn’t turn it off as the switch was bust. You couldn’t open the windows as there was no handles they had been snapped off. Shower was broken and dirty. I did tell staff but they said there was nothing they could do. So don’t waste your money or time

I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels around the UK and I can safely say this is the worst. If you’re thinking about staying because it’s cheap, believe me it’s still overpriced. Nothing in rooms work, there is no hot water, the rooms are like saunas, the lifts don’t work, mould on the ceilings, shower screens don’t fit, cracked tiles and threadbare carpets. You’d be better off sleeping in the car than risking this place.

Terrible place to stay waste of money. Room was dirty bed looked like it wasn't changed. 1 staff member was rude and should take a customer service course.

They are trying hard to improve but they really have a long way to go. It was cheap as chips so can’t complain too much. I wanted a nice bed and hot shower and that’s what I got. Don’t expect too much and you won’t be disappointed.

We went to check in and the small was disgusting. The floor was sticky and the carpet was coming off. The receptionist was rude and just wanted £50 cash. We asked to see the room before paying a deposit. He wanted my wife to stay downstairs whilst I inspected the room. When we looked at the room, we just walked out and left. Horrible.

To say in the description that this is a newly renovated hotel is beyond trades description. Stayed here in Dec 25 to go for a gig in town. The best part was the location. However the reception was a building site, the mattress on the bed had stains, the window wouldn't shut so was cold all night. Broken parts in the bathroom, unhygienic, no pillowcase on spare pillow which was disgusting anyway. There was a loud party until really late which kept us from sleeping. Lifts were broken Food on the wall in the room Paint job in the room was hilarious for a refurbished hotel, they couldn't be bothered to paint behind the TV and pipework covered in paint No matter how cheap wouldn't stay here again. Parking was good though.

Shabby, smelly, dirty, hell hole, with dishonest staff. NOV 22nd I booked a room on arrival they hat a dog behind the counter that was farting. I checked in hallway had paint cans filled with water and paint in lead up to room. Got in to room to be greeted with dirty White Towels with yellow stains & mold on shower around shower tray, the room smelled and had exposed wires from electrical wires cracked wall socket. Returned to desk the said reason towels are dirty because someone stayed there the night before, i asked if that ment the room had not been clean, he replied i can change towels for you, but no other rooms avalible as football on no other rooms avalible. I hand back the key to room and left was charged £80 for a night stay I was in the room 30 seconds. They are refusing to refund payment. This place sould be investigated for trading standards.

This hotel was not good. The carpet in the corridor was so stained, not a good start. It continued into our two rooms. Beyond tired, broken armchair that should be in a skip, cracked sink, shower screen didn’t fit, stained ceiling on both bathrooms as if leak from above. I could go on.
