About the event
[Paris, Paris, Paris] Lesbian Friendly - Queer Friendly - Exhibition -
This autumn, the Palais Galliera presents the exhibition “A Wardrobe of One’s Own. Dissident Feminities in the 19th Century” and highlights a still largely unknown phenomenon: the appropriation by 19th-century women of the masculine clothing codes of their time.

Conceived as a response to often normative approaches to femininity in fashion exhibitions, A Wardrobe of One’s Own. Dissident Feminities in the 19th Century aims to fill an important gap in fashion history. The exhibition reveals how the increasingly pronounced adoption of masculine wardrobe codes accompanied a desire for profound transformation of women's place in 19th-century society, particularly in France and the Anglo-Saxon world.
