Praia do Futuro Gay Beach

Praia do Futuro is Fortaleza's main ocean beach and the heart of its LGBTQ+ beach scene, about 10 km east of the centre. The gay-popular stretch clusters around a group of beach shacks (barracas) — most famously Barraca Cabumba and the gay-friendly Órbita Blue — where LGBTQ+ locals and visitors gather at weekends for sun, seafood, music and an easygoing crowd. Brazil recognises same-sex marriage and has anti-discrimination protections, and this stretch of Praia do Futuro is an established, openly LGBTQ+-friendly social hub rather than a hidden spot. As on any city beach, keep an eye on your belongings, stick to the busy barraca area, and take normal night-time precautions. Thursday nights (when the barracas host their traditional crab-and-music sessions) and Sunday afternoons are the liveliest.
