About the event

Members of various minorities share a common heritage of great history, but at the same time, their collective identity is shaped by personalities and events that did not make it into history textbooks. Awareness of community history is important because it shows that non-heterosexual people have always been here, and places of community memory remind us that they were everywhere. The effort to ignore, displace, or even erase their experiences also does.
The lecture will present several stories from the past of gay, lesbian, and transgender personalities and how these stories have shaped the topography of Prague. It will talk about Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic, Jan Zrzavý, Toyen, drag performer Ota Tasinat, athlete Zdeněk Koubek, or painter Toni Ebel, but also about isolated monuments or places of meeting and dating.
Admission is voluntary. The event is part of the Open Meeting for Queer People 30+.
Lecturer: PhDr. Ladislav Jackson, Ph.D. – art and architectural historian, chairman of the board of the Society for Queer Memory.
