About the event

Guest facilitator: Myroslava Tyzkyj, BA, RVT, Registered Psychotherapist
Workshop description:
This session is designed for queer and trans individuals, couples and families who are navigating the emotional terrain of building a family. Rooted in trauma-informed mental health principles and community care, this talk explores the complexities, grief, hope and resilience that shape queer and trans family building. Together, we’ll look at how to stay grounded through uncertainty, comparison and unexpected pivots—and how to rewrite your story with compassion and clarity.
Participants will:

understand the emotional rollercoaster of queer and trans family building, including hope, grief, shame and resilience
explore how comparison, internalized narratives and systemic barriers shape the question “What’s wrong with me?” and learn how to replace it with gentler, more truthful language
reflect on the grief that emerges when timelines shift, plans change or outcomes don’t unfold as hoped
gain practical strategies to support themselves and each other through setbacks, pivots and identity-affirming decision making
learn how to build emotionally attuned, connected and sustainable support systems throughout the journey

This is a supportive, identity-affirming space that honours the diversity of queer and trans families and the courage it takes to build them. You’ll leave feeling more grounded, less alone and more equipped to move forward with authenticity, care and self-compassion.
