Appletree Inn

For a small town hotel, I was very pleasantly surprised. I grew up in Independence and always wanted to go they're even I was a kid, but moved away before I could. Finally came back 35 yrs later. The pool was very nicely designed, with a rock waterfall and two accompanying hot tubs, which made the ambience nice and peaceful. The room was fairly basic, but the bed was comfortable, there was a fridge and TV, as well as a very comfortable leather recliner. My wife was, however, a bit disappointed that she could only get 2 extra pillows, despite being pregnant. The heater in the room worked great and the shower was recently upgraded, which was very nice. The continental breakfast also much better than I was expecting with choice of waffles, eggs, sausage, oatmeal, or cereal. Its in a great location, in the heart of downtown, right across from the theater, just 2 blocks from memorial hall, and a 5 minute drive or less to numerous restaurants. Would definitely recommend, and look forward to one day returning again.

Sheets on bed were filthy. Bathroom was filthy. The elevator didn't work, hotel needs lots of repair. The woman at front was hateful . Don't recommend staying here.

THIS HOTEL NEED TO BE TAKEN OFF OF ALL TRAVEL ADVISORY LIST’S, INSPECTED BY THE CITY TO SEE IF IT’S IN COMPLIANCE AND A CHANGE OF LEADERSHIP. Was recommended to stay here and the ownership and property is horrible. Had an ‘Executive Suite’ on the ground floor with no lock on the window. Moved to another room and the lights were dim. Went to breakfast and was asked; ‘Do you belong here?’ Showed my key and asked; Do it look like I belong here? The guy said; I’m the owner and you don’t look like you belong here! I informed him that; I’m a business owner as well and I’m not impressed by you being an owner because a title is nothing without professionalism. He followed me to my room and when I came out I informed him that this is a teachable moment and that I understand that the homeless may come in and try to eat for free but his approach is reprehensible and stereotypical. He walked off and I informed him that he’s so used to looking down on and talking to people any kind of way that he can’t accept someone speaking to him from a position of power. Had to change room twice, faucet continuously ran in 1st, toilet was a disaster in the 2nd, 3rd room was in better shape, however the room never cooled down, too warm to even sleep under the blankets, and that was with the A/C at full blast all night. Staff was friendly and very accommodating.

The hot tub and pool were down. We booked the jetted tub room and were highly disappointed. Lights were burnt out over the bed. No trash bags in trash cans. Toilet did not want to flush. Bed was nothing but springs. No hot water in the whole room. Jetted tub had luke warm water. The "cable internet" was having trouble, so were unable to even watch tv. Mini fridge was broken inside, so nothing would stay in. Every time the door was opened, our stuff came rolling out. There was a pubic hair in the jetted tub. We left around 7p, becasue it was so disgusting. When I complained, before we left, nothing was offered. Only as I was leaving, the offer for a new room was given. I highly recommend, if you want a romantic night, find somewhere else. No refunds will be given either. Tried through hotels.com, after front desk said I had to go through them. hotels.com stated I had to go thorugh the hotel. So, just the usual run around. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Reception wash great we needed extra blankets and had n problems getting them. Night shift was nice and helpful. Richard and Amy were great. The owners made me feel welcome. I felt safe here. Breakfast was good

I don’t know that I can do this place justice. At check in we opted for the executive suite. $12 upgrade, what could go wrong? When I was younger, I attended Independence Community College…..almost 30yrs ago. This hotel then was incredible. My girlfriend, wife now enjoyed stays here. Today’s visit was not the same. The early 90’s called and the want their decor back. While we’re at it, let’s go ahead and call Tim the tool man Taylor for room repair. There were silverfish bugs, the ceiling had water damage multiple times over. Light fixtures didn’t work, some light fixtures weren’t even present. Being a suite, it had a hot tub. The hot tub hair what looked to be pubic hair in the drain and had a constant stream of water leaking from the faucet. There were places in the room where the drywall wasn’t even present. The night staff ended up cooking something at the front desk that smelled like Frito’s corn chips……yes, that means dirty feet. If you know, you know. I would not recommend staying here. Look elsewhere folks

Nice place good management.

There was hair all im the pool....the bathroom light didn't work. This place is just dirty. The pool is the only good thing and it's nasty. Would not recommend 😕

"Under renovation" posted.. I understand the renovation but the room phone didn't work so I had to go to the lobby with TV remote problems.. Told me to reprogram it.. Bathroom door broken, paint chunks missing room, carpet was sticky, fridge though turned down never cooled. Toilet filled in pool Bathroom and had not been flushed or cleaned in days. I was even willing to let some of this go until my 9yr old daughter cut her foot open IN THE POOL on a broken tile. I told the front desk as I was asking for a bandaid and not so much as a nod to acknowledge it..
