Black Bass Hotel

My wife and I spent Friday and Saturday nights at the Black Bass, and by the time we checked out Sunday morning, we were already talking about coming back. Our room overlooked the Delaware River, and waking up to that view each morning was worth the trip by itself. Watching the river quietly flow by with kayakers, tubers, and cyclists enjoying the towpath nearby made for a relaxing start to each day. It’s a beautiful setting, and the inn is perfectly located for exploring New Hope, Washington Crossing, and Doylestown, all just a short drive away. The inn itself has exactly the kind of colonial charm we were hoping for—historic, comfortable, and full of character without sacrificing modern comforts. What really made the weekend special, though, was the people. From check-in to dinner to checkout, every member of the staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Even the valet service deserves recognition. The young people handling the cars were courteous, professional, and had everything running like clockwork. Dinner was exceptional. The cocktails were expertly crafted, and the food was every bit as memorable. I had the grilled scallops served over a creamy lima bean sauce, and they were outstanding. My wife ordered the 10-ounce filet cooked medium, and it was absolutely perfect. It’s becoming increasingly rare to find a place where every part of the experience comes together so well. The Black Bass isn’t just a wonderful historic inn with an excellent restaurant—it’s a place where people clearly take pride in making guests feel welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and are already looking forward to our next visit.

​My wife and I visited the Black Bass Hotel for the first time recently. The historic building itself is lovely with a great story behind it, and the river views are wonderful. However, for a dining experience at a fine-dining price point, the food and service fell short. ​Appetizer: We started with the burrata, which was small and noticeably lacked flavor. We actually had to ask for extra pesto sauce just to give it some life. ​Mains: My wife ordered the strip steak requested medium, but it arrived slightly overcooked (past medium) and lacked basic seasoning. Her asparagus and mashed potatoes were just average. I had the double pork chops—the meat was cooked well and very tender, but it lacked any char or deep flavor. My scalloped potatoes were completely unseasoned and bland, though the sweet corn mix on the side was decent. ​Dessert: We shared the warm apple tart with strawberry ice cream, which was definitely not worth the price. The ice cream felt freezer-burned with noticeable ice crystals, and the apples were lukewarm at best. ​Service: The staff was polite and friendly, but they weren't as attentive or sharp as you’d expect for the prices being charged. ​Overall, while the setting and historic charm are great, the kitchen severely needs to work on its seasoning and execution to justify fine-dining prices.

We visit several times a year but Christmas is a must. Love the decor, food always fabulous, rooms are so charming.

We had dinner and we both enjoyed our meals. We ate outside on the patio and took in the scenic Delaware River. The atmosphere is just fabulous along with the wait staff. After dinner we took a walk across the pedestrian bridge and took in the site at sunset.

Absolutely the worst experience. We had our reservation confirmed multiple times before our wedding after there was confusion with my husband’s name, and we were assured everything was taken care of. My husband even picked up our room keys the morning of our wedding! After our reception, we arrived on our wedding night only to find that our keys didn’t work. The front desk was closed, no one answered the phone, and we were left completely stranded on our wedding night. No after-hours support, no way to access the room we paid for. This is the last thing any couple should have to deal with on their wedding night. Respectfully you guys really really suck for that

Lunch not a hotel room.

3 former HS classmates met for lunch at 12:30. Nice window table on the Delaware, friendly waitress. Was not crowded on a hot Thursday. Pleasant inside. All three enjoyed their food. Menu is a bit limited on sandwiches but had plenty of other offerings. Prices were reasonable. Note free parking is across the street from this historic venue, originally owned by a Tory supporter who told George Washington he was not welcome. A few weeks later the colonists crossed the river and proceeded to capture the Hession garrison in Trenton, NJ.

Beautiful dining on well appointed deck or stay inside with a and large windows with great views, multiple levels of a gorgeous river overlook and the unique suspension bridge.
