Kaleidoscope Art Show
About the event
The Handforth Gallery at the Tacoma Public Library Main Branch opens three exhibitions this fall as part of the 25th anniversary of Tacoma Arts Month.
The 253 is a group exhibition of work by 28 Tacoma artists and artist teams. Each artist brings their own view of Tacoma to the gallery walls, with work from artists who live and work in the 253.
The Hair Story Project is a solo exhibition by Tacoma artist Cennady Coleman, two years in the making and funded through the Tacoma Artists Initiative Program (TAIP). The work asks one question: what is your hair story? Eight photographs are each paired with stories drawn from Coleman's conversations with the people pictured. The exhibition also includes blown glass by Emily Martin, ceramics by Calista Coleman, and a photograph by Stephanie Cortes. Coleman sees the project as a starting point for larger conversations about race, texturism, class, gender, queer identity, disability, and creative expression.
The gallery also features work by TAIP artists Kristin L. Tollefson, Teresa K. Owens, Adela Ramos, Stephanie Meredith, Yaya Mulvey, and Sarah A. Chavez.
This exhibition is on view during regular library hours through December 2026.
