About this place Tamarind Restaurant

Tamarind is widely regarded as one of East Africa's finest restaurants and Nairobi's most distinguished dining experience. Established in the 1970s and long a fixture of the city's upscale dining scene, Tamarind specialises in fresh seafood ? Kenyan coast lobster, crab, and prawns prepared in East African, Swahili, and continental styles ? in an elegant setting that has remained one of Nairobi's most consistently excellent culinary addresses. Tamarind is not a LGBTQ+-friendly restaurant, and does not market itself as such. Its relevance to LGBTQ+ visitors lies in its clientele: the restaurant draws Nairobi's diplomatic corps, international business community, NGO leadership, and the city's professional expatriate population ? a crowd that is internationally connected, socially cosmopolitan, and accustomed to a degree of personal diversity that is less common in Nairobi's mainstream public spaces. Within this context, LGBTQ+ professionals, couples, and visitors have long been part of the restaurant's social fabric. For travelers seeking a high-quality dining experience in a setting where discretion and professionalism are guaranteed, Tamarind delivers on both counts. The service is among the most polished in the city. The wine list is one of the best in Nairobi. For same-sex couples wanting a romantic dinner in an environment where professional staff will treat them without incident, Tamarind is the restaurant recommendation in Nairobi's central area. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for evening dining. The Tamarind brand also operates a boat restaurant in Mombasa ? another option for LGBTQ+ visitors exploring the coast.

Great service. I was slightly disappointed with the quality of my meat platter. It wasn't bad at all but the sausages in particular were not good quality.
