BEHIND DIA DE LOS MUERTOSCelebrated on November 1 and 2, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday where families build altars to welcome back the souls of their ancestors for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. In Mexico, its origins can be traced to rituals practiced by the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, echoing the way that the Olmecs, Toltecs, Mixtecs, Zapotecs, Maya, Aztecs and more honored death. Now practiced all over the world, Día de los Muertos acknowledges the symbiotic relationship between life and death, reminding us all that those who have passed are forever alive in our memories.BEHIND THIS COLLABORATIONFounded by Suxxy Puxxy and friends, Coquito Austin is a café and nightclub, reflecting the vibrancy of Austin’s live music and Latinx communities. Suxxy Puxxy pitched Pulga Coquito during her time in Future Front’s 2025/26 Residency Program.

MEET THE ARTISTS

CONTEMPORARY CUMBIA ARTISTVanita LeoComing from a rich lineage of Tejano heritage, Vanita Leo's (@vanitaleomusic) appetite for ushering in a new wave of Chicano sound was inevitable. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas with a bloodline from Mazatlan, Sinaloa; the culture that Vanita was raised in was a melting pot of sounds.Initially using the guise of lush bedroom pop as an introspective outlet of self-discovery & passion, Leo now devotes her talents to exploring the modern intersection of Latino and American music. Her influences includes Sade, José José, Alicia Villarreal, Etta James, Pilar Montenegro, and of course la reina de la cumbia Selena Quintanilla. Her next single relea
