Playing with Gender Roles

What happens when gender roles become a game? The philosopher Judith Butler does not understand gender as something natural or unchangeable, but as something that arises through actions, language, clothing, and social expectations. Those who consciously exaggerate or playfully change gender roles make their rules visible and can question them. Since these norms are never completely fixed, possibilities for change and new perspectives on what is considered "female" or "male" open up.
