Roma Pride
About This Event
Roma Pride is the Pride of Italy's capital, organised by the Circolo di Cultura Omosessuale Mario Mieli with a coordinating group of around twenty associations. The first edition in 1994 drew around 10,000 people at a time when Italy had no legal recognition at all for same-sex couples. Civil unions arrived only in 2016, and adoption and hate-crime laws are still the main demands on every banner.
The parade leaves Piazza della Repubblica in the late afternoon and winds past Santa Maria Maggiore and down Via Merulana to the Colosseum, ending at the Terme di Caracalla. That last stretch is where the Pride Croisette is set up, a site for concerts and debates that runs for days around the parade and hosts the big finale. Watching and walking are free. The floats carry big-name Italian pop acts, and the mayor usually marches near the front.
Roma Pride typically falls on a Saturday in mid-June, part of the Onda Pride wave of Italian Prides that runs from May to September. Rome in June is hot and the route has little shade before sunset, so bring water and wait until the march reaches Caracalla before going all out. Monti and the area around Termini put you within walking distance of the start; book a few weeks ahead, since June is high season anyway.
The 32nd edition took place on Saturday 20 June 2026 under the slogan "La Repubblica è di chi la abita" (The Republic belongs to those who live in it), with more than 30 floats and singers Levante and Francesca Michielin as ambassadors. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri marched at the front and closed with a call for adoption rights. The day was not free of tension: a Jewish LGBTQ+ group, Keshet Italia, marched in a separate section after a dispute over a political document on Gaza. Sky TG24 reported tens of thousands of people; no official count was published. The 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked.
