*Inflexible, chaotic, and completely uncoordinated service at the restaurant.* We asked to be put on the waitlist for the 19:00 seating because we have a young child who needs to be in bed by 21:00. The staff told us the 19:00 first seating was full but they had space at 20:30 second seating. We explained that 20:30 was far too late for a toddler. By 20:00, half of the restaurant was completely empty. Despite the clear abundance of open tables, the staff rigidly refused to seat us, repeating that the first seating was 'full.' Their total lack of logic and flexibility ruined our evening. Had they simply seated us at an open table, we would have easily finished dinner and left by 20:00. Unprofessional management - avoid if you are dining with family.
Our stay at Herdade da Malhadinha Nova was simply extraordinary. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire management and staff for their exceptional hospitality. From the moment we arrived, we were touched by their kindness, professionalism, and all the thoughtful touches that made our stay unforgettable. A special thank you for the complimentary upgrade. Our suite was absolutely magnificent, a true haven of peace where luxury, elegance, and comfort blend perfectly. We were also very touched by the thoughtful touches left in our room: the delicious pastries, the bottle of wine, and all these thoughtful gestures that make all the difference and demonstrate a remarkable sense of hospitality. The setting is exceptional, the cuisine refined, the estate's wines outstanding, and the staff always smiling and attentive. Here, everything is designed to ensure that every moment is a moment of pure bliss. We were celebrating a very special occasion, our 31st wedding anniversary, and we couldn't have dreamed of a more magical place to mark the occasion. A timeless interlude in an exceptional setting where we felt truly privileged from beginning to end. Thank you again to the entire team for these precious memories. We leave with stars in our eyes and the desire to return very soon.
Excellence and serenity in the heart of the Alentejo!! Enjoying a few days at this property is to immerse oneself in a haven of absolute peace, conducive to worldview and inner revitalization. The estate perfectly embodies the symbiosis between contemporary luxury and the noblest Alentejo traditions. The impeccable service and attention to detail elevate the stay to a higher level of well-being. High praise for this bastion of national tourism, to which I will return with unequivocal pleasure.
Herdade da Malhadinha has genuine highlights — the spa is exceptional and not to be missed, and the Alentejo setting is stunning. But be aware the estate is so vast and spread out that you'll need to drive your own car between areas, which quietly undermines the sense of escape you're paying for. The service fell consistently short of what you'd expect at this price point. The most egregious example: we were assured in advance that EV charging would be no problem, and the solution offered by staff was to wait outside until midnight for another guest's Tesla to finish — and then ask that guest if we could swap spots. Simply not acceptable. One of the pools was dirty for the entirety of our stay despite multiple complaints — with a dead bird floating in it the whole time. That a dead animal was not immediately removed is beyond comprehension at any hotel, let alone one at this price point. Smaller misses added up too. At breakfast I ordered an omelette and an oat milk latte — confirming the latter in both English and Portuguese — and was brought scrambled eggs and a cow's milk latte. At the restaurant, while the meal was enjoyable, a number of dishes missed the mark. The rooms are poorly insulated — late-arriving guests and birdsong from 5am made sleeping in impossible. There's real potential here, but for the rates charged, the execution needs to match the ambition. We would not return. And it seems from the comments, many people share our concerns regarding the poor service.
