Queer Thursday Storytelling Cafe – District Library Buch meets Sonntags-Club!!: Everything will change… – we remain lesbian! – Perspectives in the lesbian magazine "frau anders" on the years of transformation. Lecture by Paula Kr
About the event
How did lesbians from the GDR experience the turning point years of 1989/90? How did they advocate for change? What did they dream of and what did they fight for? What experiences did they have during the first encounters with West German lesbians? A look into "frau anders" offers answers to these questions. "Frau anders" was the only lesbian magazine in the GDR, or East Germany, and was published from 1989 to 1993. Articles, short stories, interviews, and reader letters paint a comprehensive picture of East German lesbian realities of life at that time. The lecture focuses on contributions from "frau anders" that shed light on the first changes in the GDR in 1989/90, the relationship between the East and West German lesbian movements, the self-perception of East German lesbians, perspectives on "German Unity," and reactions to right-wing violence in the early 1990s. Paula Kreutzmann studied Cultural Studies and Gender Studies. The lecture is based on her master's thesis of the same name. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of Leipzig and volunteers at MONAliesA – Feminist Library and Archive. In her dissertation, she investigates queer movements of the 1990s in East Germany and Berlin.
