Shadows, light, and rainbows – Dortmund's queer history. Dortmund is steel, coal, and black-and-yellow passion. But between the old mine towers and the city streets lies a history that was long told only in whispers. On this tour, we leave the loud paths and discover Dortmund's colorful soul, mindfully, respectfully, and authentically. This tour is not a party, but a tribute to courage. We go on a search for traces, from the oppressive silence of the past to the vibrant openness of the present.
The route leads us to the Steinwache Memorial. At this historic site, we pause to commemorate those who were persecuted because of their identity. Walking through the Burgtor district, it becomes clear how former 'hiding places' became places of proud encounters. Our guides are part of the community or closely connected to it; they do not recite memorized scripts but tell real anecdotes from life in the Ruhr area, sometimes melancholic, sometimes with the typical Ruhr area wink.
