And frankly, we think that’s a bargain.
You know him. You love him. You’ve probably received at least one overly enthusiastic message from him about a new Gay Social Club idea that absolutely nobody asked for.
He’s the founder. The visionary. The self-appointed main character. The man who looked at the concept of having a social life and thought, “What if I made this everyone’s full-time problem?”
And now, we’re giving him exactly what he’s always wanted. An entire evening dedicated to himself.
There’s just one tiny catch.
IT’S A ROAST, BABE.
That’s right, we’re gathering at Wheat Wine Whiskey for a very special evening of comedy, questionable compliments, and some lovingly brutal jokes at the expense of our beloved founder, Nick Aldrich.
For one night only, we’re putting the man behind the madness in the hot seat and giving everyone the opportunity to celebrate his greatest achievement: creating a community of people who are now comfortable enough to absolutely destroy him in public.
Expect outrageous stories, suspiciously accurate observations, a healthy dose of gay audacity, and jokes that Nick will almost certainly pretend not to be offended by.
Because if there’s one thing we know about Nick, it’s that he can take a joke.
Or at least that’s what his legal team has advised us to say.
We’ve heard the stories. We’ve survived the ideas. We’ve watched a casual conversation about a social event somehow turn into plans for an international expansion, a nightclub, and three new business ventures.
And now? The bill has come due.
WHY ARE WE ROASTING NICK?
Because apparently running multiple social clubs, organising hundreds of events, and making himself the centre of every group photo wasn’t quite enough attention.
Also, because we love him.
Underneath the dramatic announcements, ambitious ideas, and occasional delusions of grandeur is someone who’s brought an extraordinary number of people together.
But don’t tell him we said that. His ego genuinely cannot afford the additional encouragement.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A Friday night filled with comedy, plenty of laughs, and an affectionate (but potentially devastating) tribute to the man who started it all.
You don’t need to know Nick personally to enjoy the night. In fact, not knowing him might make some of the revelations significantly more alarming.
Coming solo? PERFECT! Most of our members do. Adeline will be there from 7pm to welcome everyone, make introductions, and get you settled in before the roasting begins.
Whether you’ve been around since the early days of Gay Social Club or you’re brand new and wondering who this Nick character is and why everyone seems so determined to humble him, you’re very welcome.
And don’t worry, nobody’s expecting you to get on stage or deliver a five-minute comedy set. Your only responsibility is to show up, laugh loudly, and resist the temptation to feel sorry for him.
He’s had this coming.

Cheaper than therapy. More entertaining than a board meeting. And quite possibly the only time Nick has ever willingly agreed to an event where he’s not the one holding the microphone.
Although, knowing him, he’ll probably try to give a closing speech.

This is a comedy roast, so expect cheeky humour, playful insults, and jokes at Nick’s expense.
The evening is intended to be fun, affectionate, and entertaining. While we’re absolutely here to humble our founder, our usual community standards still apply. Discriminatory, hateful, or genuinely abusive behaviour isn’t part of the show.

Please note: The check-in window for all Melbourne Gay Social Club events begins at the advertised event start time and remains open for 30 minutes after the event begins.
