About this place Madre Tierra

Madre Tierra is a restaurant on Almirante Montt, the street that climbs from the lower town into Cerro Alegre, Valparaíso's most-visited hillside quarter. It is a mainstream restaurant listed as gay-friendly, not a gay venue. Prices are toward the higher end for the city, and it holds 4.6 on Google from about 240 reviews. We do not have its menu or hours on file, so check a current listing before you go. Cerro Alegre and neighbouring Cerro Concepción are walkable and packed with cafés and guesthouses. Be careful with phones and bags on the stairways after dark.

Excellent restaurant. The service is efficient, the dishes are well presented and tasty, and the waiters are smiling and attentive.

After a long time (we have a one-year-old baby), my husband and I went to celebrate our wedding anniversary alone. I saw a recommendation for this restaurant on TikTok, but when we arrived, the waitress wasn't very welcoming. There were three tables, including ours. We ordered our food, and the service took a whopping 45 minutes, no exaggeration. For the number of tables and people, I'd say that's the worst. The food was delicious, though I felt the portions were very small for the price. The waitress saw our dissatisfaction and gave us a complimentary slice of tres leches cake. Would I go back? A resounding no.
