Expert Day "Participation and Multiple Discrimination: Challenges and Perspectives for and by LSBTIQ+ People with Refugee Experience
About the event
Participation and discrimination of LSBTIQ+ people with refugee experience will be discussed at an expert day on November 12, 2026, organized by the Office for Equality and Anti-Discrimination and the Municipal Integration Center.
LSBTIQ+ people with refugee experience are particularly vulnerable and often affected by multiple discrimination. Often, an insecure residence status, the difficult search for safe accommodation, and experiences with various forms of discrimination, such as racism and homophobia, come together. Discrimination is a central barrier that prevents people from having equal access to work, housing, education, and social activities. To enable effective participation, barriers and prejudices must be dismantled and legal frameworks consistently applied.
The Office for Equality and Anti-Discrimination and the Municipal Integration Center Düsseldorf of the Office for Migration and Integration are jointly organizing the expert day "Participation and Multiple Discrimination: Challenges and Perspectives for and by LSBTIQ+ People with Refugee Experience" for exchange and topic-oriented networking. The content was developed in cooperation with experts from AWO Familienglobus gGmbH, the integration agency and the frauenberatungsstelle düsseldorf e.V., the PRADI NRW network, and Aidshilfe Düsseldorf e.V.
