The Emancipation of Queer Cinema
About the event
The screenwriter, the demiurge who decides the fate of characters on screen, has mistreated queer characters for many, many years: burdening them with flaws and hardships, guiding them towards failure, pushing them into the torments of dramas and tragedies. Are the 2020s sounding the death knell for these dark journeys? This workshop, led by Didier Roth-Bettoni, author, journalist, and historian of queer cinema, examines the trajectories of queer characters in fiction films, from the origins of cinema to the present day, to observe, hopefully, that happy endings have finally taken hold in the realm of queer cinema. Through film excerpts and audience interaction, this workshop observes how queer cinema has transformed. As part of the Everybody's Perfect festival, from October 9 to 18. Salle Henri-Langlois. Free, upon registration.
